Have you always wanted to be a musician?
As far back as I can remember, l have been obsessed with music. I used to love guessing the next song on the radio as quickly as I could. I got my first guitar when I was seven, and by about Twelve, with the addition of potential attention from girls at school, just for playing music, I was hooked!  
The short answer is yes. I’ve always wanted to be a musician. My life and career has lead me to work in and out of the music business but I’m always drawn back to music and being a musician.

When did you get the song writing bug?
I got the songwriting bug when I was 14, once I’d figured out how to play, sing and perform, it was the logical next step for me. My writing developed really quickly as I emulated artists and songs I loved.

How would you describe your sound? 
I describe my sound as modern nostalgia. It’s dynamic but features sounds and instrumentation intended to elicit nostalgia for a time, place or genre in subtle ways. 

Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I hope they do! People generally resonate most with song ideas or messages. It’s really nice when people come up and say the love one song or another. 

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
I’ve been inspired by so many artists and genres over my journey. From Chuck Berry to The Eagles, Clapton to Otis Redding, the Stones, Chet Atkins, Chris Stapleton – the common thread above genre is guitar driven singer songwriters. 

Your new single ‘Sideswiped’ has just been released!  Describe its origin and evolution.
I first wrote Sideswiped as a kid. It was one of my earliest songs, and it never saw the light of day. During Covid I, like most of us had more time than usual on my hands so I dusted it off and rewrote parts of it to really round out the song and the story, which is the proverbial day from hell, where everything goes sideways!

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
More than on the drawing board, my debut album Make You Feel is locked and loaded for release on Sept 5! It’s been a long time coming and I’m excited to share it with the world.

Any tours or events coming up soon?
I’m playing at the Robin Hood in Sydney on Sat 22 June and the Post Office Hotel in Tamworth in Jul 20. Touring plans for later this year are coming together too. Watch this space!

What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m really looking forward to bringing my music to life for audiences across Australia. They can expect a pretty big sound and dynamic performance by some of Australia’s best musicians (and me!)

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
If I could play with any artist, it would probably be Paul MacCartney. He’s a genius, Lenny Kravitz, because he’s so cool, and Chris Stapleton because of his lyrics and melodies.

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
My long term aspirations are to build a body of work I’m proud of, and hopefully people enjoy listening to. 

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
Never. Give. Up.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
Performing is such a two way experience. People love live music and musicians get to facilitate and amazing coming together around music.

What’s been the career highlight so far?
Seeing Sideswiped get picked up by stations I listen to like Kix FM and ABC Country…
