Have you always wanted to be a musician ? When did you get the songwriting bug?
Growing up I was always performing, creating shows of some kind and making my friends be a part of my circus in the living room but it wasn’t until the start of intermediate that I started to sing. So I didn’t really start writing my own songs until a few years later, and it wasn’t until the last few years of high school that I caught the writing bug.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I always find this question tricky… as I feel it morphs and changes but I think I would describe my sound as something leaning itself towards elements of 90’s Pop/RnB/Soul.
It is always such an incredible thing when people connect with my music, outside of my wonderful friends and family. To think people who don’t know me at all are listening to what I am creating and enjoying it, is such an awesome feeling. In terms of people resonating with my music, I think it is because there is an element of honesty and relatability, mixed with a sense of fun. I also hope that people would resonate with me as a person…. who I am and what I create is always somewhat tied together.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
The past few years I have been so inspired by Solange. Everything she does oozes creativity! Her songs, live performance, amazing outfits, videos … they are all so incredible!

Your new single ‘Made For Loving’ is about to be released! Describe it’s origin and evolution.
Made for Loving was actually written in Houston TX, a week after my “now husband” had proposed in California. I was heading into the studio (following the proposal) to record my EP, and Abel (My producer) and I had decided to spend the last day in the studio creating something new. It wasn’t even supposed to be apart of the record, obviously it didn’t even exist in the planning stages of the project, but I was on Cloud 9 and wanted to write about it all and how I was feeling…. so here we are!

Tell us about your self-titled EP?
My debut EP came out earlier this year, and is something I am so proud of. It was the first project I had released and it felt like such an incredible stake in the ground as an artist actually releasing something.
My initial plan for the EP actually went out the window on day 2 of being in the studio. I had flown to Houston to work with a producer over there and came to this cross road at the end of the day, feeling like the songs we were recording felt like they were a little old and stale, and like they captured me and my sound from 4 years ago. So…. I kind of started again, re-writing songs, pulling ideas from voice memos off my phone, looking at other ways of doing things and really trusting my gut creatively and running with that. The EP is the product of that. Trusting my gut, working with an incredible producer (Abel Orta Jr.) who was so flexible and willing to run with me and all my ideas and just enjoying the process.
All of that to say, the EP feels fun! It captures so many sides of me musically and carries so much of my journey over the past few years in a way that I am so proud of.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
In terms of touring, I have a few shows coming up in NZ that will be super rad. But obviously the landscape of touring outside of NZ and playing live shows looks very different with the nature of Covid right now. The incredible thing about what Covid is forcing artists to do, is rethink how live music can be played, how artists can still be engaging their fans and what is actually possible. In the mean time …..there will be some more live shows from my studio at home via social media and who knows what 2021 will hold.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? and why?
Gosh…. there are so many! Alicia Keys would definitely be up there!
She just carries something so special when she plays live. It’s almost like she holds her audience in the palm of her hand… I just want to be a part of that for a moment.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
Long term I would just love to continue writing music, releasing music.. playing shows, keep doing what I love for as long as I can.
I would love to work with Solange and do something with Quest Love!

.

.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The best thing is when you are playing live and the audience is so engaged in the song… you could hear a pin drop.
It’s a little strange, but a career highlight for me was a show that I played recently. It was the first show since Lockdown here in NZ and it was a small intimate gig at a wine bar called Friedas. Everyone was so attentive, and they were so present the entire night. I felt like they were with me the whole time, super engaged and seemed to love my new material (and terrible jokes). Because I released my EP in lockdown, it was the first time I was able to play my new songs live, and it just made me appreciate the simple thing of being able to play music to people again.

Finally, a few questions for some quick answers
Favourite:
Album – “A seat at the table” – Solange
Artist – Solange
Movie – Matilda, Princess Diaries, Bridesmaids Place to Visit – The beach
Venue to Play – Frieda’s (I think it was actually an old butcher, that has been renovated into this intimate wine bar where live music and fun shows are always happening. I recently played there and it was one of my most favourite gigs to date.)
Food – Food is my kryptonite… It’s too hard to say what my favourite is but I love Port Salut (cheese).
Drink – G&T
Tattoo – (If you don’t have one, what would you get?) I don’t currently have any tattoos… In my mind it would be funny to get a tattoo saying “no regurts”… but I don’t think I would ever commit to actually doing it.

Talented New Zealand singer/song writer
GEORGIA LINES
delivers new pop-disco
inspired track
‘MADE FOR LOVING’

Born and raised in Mount Maunganui, Georgia Lines’ musical story began with a Rockquest win in 2014.  In the last year since the release of debut single, Vacant Cities, Georgia has appeared in over 10 major playlists across the globe, rolled out a single distribution deal in the UK and has amassed well over 1 million Spotify streams and climbing for her debut EP release.

For new single release ‘Made for Loving’, Georgia Lines has joined forces with director, photographer and creative director Cam Neate, to produce a visual feast for the 70’s inspired, Made For Loving, a stand out track from Georgia’s self-tited debut EP.

Shot on Super-8 film to capture the nostalgic feel of the single, Made For Loving is Georgia’s third visual partnership with Cam, who has previously directed the videos for Georgia’s debut single, Vacant Cities, plus follow up single, Never Had Love

.

.

Georgia elaborates on the video; “The concept is super simple and actually less about a storyline, but it really delivers an abstract yet romantic feel, particularly through the use of Super 8 film. It leans into some classic romantic symbolism, which was styled by a good friend of mine, Lizzie Turner. As a video, it couples perfectly with ‘Made for Loving,’ the song I wrote as a reaction to getting engaged. I am so thrilled that this track has found its visual match, it’s a very special song to me.”

Written and recorded in the space of two days in Houston, Texas with Abel Orta Jr (while collaborating via FaceTime with musical cohort Josh Turner, who is based in Mount Maunganui), Made For Loving is Georgia’s testament to trusting her gut, throwing caution to the wind and taking the plunge into unknown territory.  With limited studio time left during the last days of the EP record and a split decision to seize the moment and create something new, that pressure has produced a disco-inspired diamond which shows yet another dimension to Georgia’s singing and songwriting ability.

Expect to see Georgia’s levelled-up songwriting confidence and willingness to take risks underpin her next colleciton of tracks, which are currently incubating for a 2021 release, thanks to a NZ On Air project funding grant.

Made For Loving, and Georgia Lines’ self-titled debut EP is available now through all streaming platforms.
