Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
When I was about 7 years old my next door neighbour showed me how to play a bar chord on a guitar. I immediately started to shift that shape all over the fretboard and from there started to write songs.

Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it influenced your current style?
The Offspring’s album Americana was the first CD I bought as a kid so it had a massive impact on me. My Dad was a big fan of The Eagles so that ‘hell frozen over’ live DVD got played like once a week in my house as well. I’ve never only listened to one genre or time period of music. I’m sort of all over the place and so are my influences.

How would you describe your sound?
Simple on the surface but deep if you really dive in.

Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I think we do a good job at making music people can hear themselves in. We tell our stories but never want to exclude the listener from theirs.

Your new single ‘Boxing Underwater’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
Boxing came from a day I spent with our friend Jarryd James. We have been friends for a long time and this was our first session writing together, so it’s a special song to us because of that. Also getting Cailin Russo on the track was a dream. We have been a fan of hers for a while.

Do you have any more new music in the works?
We have so much new music on the way. We have a couple more singles coming out this year, then an EP to start off next year.

Do you have any shows/tours coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
We have a tour supporting our mate Boo Seeka in October, so we are very excited for that. Fans can expect to have a good time with us. Our goal for our live show is to make people forget their lives for a night and to let go with us.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
James Blake, I got crazy goosebumps watching him last Splendour in the Grass.

What’s next for you in the near future?
Touring and releasing more music. We haven’t done a lot of live performances so we are really focusing on getting our show right.

What are your longer-term aspirations?
An Album. Matt and I have had the goal of making an album together for a long time.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
Performing live is such a release. To show yourself and connect to strangers is exciting and terrifying. It’s the most alive you can ever feel.
