Interview with Dave Bruce
“Being featured on Jayne’s new song ‘Moonshine’ is a true honor as well as bringing more of my music to the Australian country scene. Country roots run deep, and the spirit of the countryside can be found in every corner of the world, where hardworking and down-to-earth people come together to create community.” — Colt Ford
Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
I grew up in a musical family so it was just what you did. I started writing in my early 20’s when I knew if I wanted to get out of the cover band world I had to write my own songs and I felt by then I also had something to say.Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it influenced your current style?
I grew up on Country music but discovered Aussie pub Rock in my teens and that was it, I wanted to be the lead singer of a Rock band. It wasn’t till I started writing songs that the two types of music I knew so well, blended into one and Country Rock was destined to be my sound. How would you describe your sound?
Country Rock, but it was fun to also blend Spaghetti Western music into Country Rock for my latest Album WANTED.Why do you think people resonate with your music?
It always been upbeat and fun but with guts so I guess for those who like Country but want it to rock. I am ya girl.Your new ‘Moonshine’ feat Colt Ford has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
As soon as I heard this song I knew if I was going to write a love song this was it. It was originally written for a guy to sing but I though, man how cool would it be if a chick sings it from a girls point of view. Then to have Colt Ford love the song so much he agreed to feature on it was a dream come true. It just adds something extra special.Do you have any more new music in the works?
Yes Moonshine is the first single and title track of my next album. We have a bunch of songs that we are going to roll out this year then drop the full Album in 2023. In fact we have a song that we are going to sneak out a song real soon just to give everyone a taste of whats to come. And the next big single to radio will be out mid year.Do you have any shows/tours coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
This year has been my biggest year of shows ever and I am looking forward to doing some big ones like Main stage Deni Ute Muster, Gympie Muster, NQ’s Rockin Country in Mackay plus many more. (see website for more details)If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Gretchen Wilson, was the artist who cut new ground for girls in Country Music singing her style of Country Rock so I owe a lot to her. I have met her a few times so you never know maybe one day. What’s next for you in the near future?
I can’t wait to share the next chapter of my music with the MOONSHINE album. It is musically inspired from the prohibition era so like the WANTED Album musically its going to be something special for your ears. What are your longer-term aspirations?
I think it is just to continue to build my fan base for however long this season of a music career go’s for. I have toured throughout the USA over the years so look forward to getting back there asap and I would love to try Canada and the UK.What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
It is by far my favorite part of the job when I hit the stage its like I just turn my on button on and it can be 20 people to 20,000 people I just give my high energy show all I have and its so much fun seeing the crowd come on a journey with us as we entertain the best way I know how. Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
