Have you always wanted to be an artist? When did you get the song writing bug?
I have wanted to be a singer for as long as I can remember, once I started writing my own music I couldn’t stop. It became therapy for me, it helped me process my feelings and experiences. I honestly love the whole process from the initial writing session to creating the visual assets for each song.

Briefly describe your journey to date.
I started singing lessons when I was in kindergarten, when I was 10 someone gave me a book and suggested I write my own songs. I made my first demos at 13 and I released my first song at 16. After school I went to the Con to for a year and a half and left last year to focus on my own Artist project.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
So I would say alt RnB /Pop, but I love to have the freedom to write whatever I feel like and I like to write songs that are fun to perform. At one point I was feeling a bit boxed in with the genre thing and after a conversation with Cyrus I realised the most important thing is that I am writing music that I like and I have fun making. I write about real experiences that I have had and I think fans can relate to that. I think they appreciate how I tell it straight plus I like to think I write a good hook.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
I draw a lot of inspiration from Billie Eilish throughout her songs, visuals and performances. I think she is so effortlessly cool and unique and unapologetically herself and to me that is one of the coolest things about an artist.

Your new single ‘Masquerade’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution. Did you enjoy working with Cyrus Villanueva and Salty on the song?
I  have been working with Cyrus for a few years now, he is my favourite producer to work with, every session with him is so chill and fun. This is the first song I wrote with Salty and I loved it, I hope we get to do lots more together. The day we wrote Masquerade we all just happened to come into the studio with the same reference, so we were definitely on the same wavelength of what kind of song we wanted to write. Before the session we were chatting about how when I first start dating someone new I have my walls up so high and it takes a while for me to trust someone and let my guard down. So we wrote about wearing a ‘mask’ to protect yourself from being too vulnerable.

Is there an EP or ALBUM on the drawing board?
Yes, I will start working on my EP later this year /early next year.

What tours and events are coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I have a show later this month with GAZAL at Trocadero. I’m heading to LA for a writing trip in September. And I’m planning to do a headline show in Melbourne later this year. And at least one more song this year, maybe two.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose?
Jorja Smith And why? I feel like I really resonate with jorja smith, I think our vibes are quite similar but different at the same time and I think if you put us together we could make something insane.

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
I want to make music I love and build a fanbase that loves it as much as I do. I feel like I have grown so much in the past year. I’m really happy with the music I am releasing and I love the visual world we’ve built around the songs. I’m also super happy with the way I’ve grown my live shows.

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
Keep going, keep working on your art and putting it out there. Be authentic and do what makes you happy.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
There is no better feeling than when the audience sing your song back to you.

What’s been the career highlight so far?
Performing to my sold out headline show at Bootleggers in Sydney
