Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
I’ve wanted to be a singer since I was around 10 years old. This was probably around the time when I started writing my first songs.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Interestingly my voice has shifted a lot over time. I tried to sing like Delta Goodrum, Shakira, and Christina Aguilera a lot as a kid. Some people say I have a Missy Higgin and Florence and the Machine vibe…so I’ll take that. But I guess my voice has developed a good range over time which fits a kind of indie/neo-folk/ pop sound.
And why people might resonate with my music? Well, a lot of people have said I give them goosebumps! And I don’t really shy away from exploring the light and dark sides of life. So, I’d like to think my honesty is what’s relatable.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Justin Timberlake is probably up there with one of my favourite past and present artists. He’s transitioned so much as a musician, and I can sit and watch his live performances over and over again. I’m also a huge fan of Tash Sultana. I can feel everything she feels when I hear her play. I love her style and voice, and her talent is out of this world.
Your new single is being released on June 30. Describe its origin and evolution.
This song was written the day after my Stepsister passed away. She had Lupus which is an autoimmune disease. I would have been 13 years old and at that stage I’d already started playing piano and writing my own songs. I really struggled to emotionally express myself during this time, so turning to music was my main outlet. I remember the music just came to me and within an hour I had a song. Musically and lyrically, hardly anything has changed. Of course, there’s drums, synths and strings now, but the song itself has kept its shape since it was first written.
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Absolutely! My main focus at the moment is getting myself out there as an artist. I’m also juggling a Bachelor of Psychological Science, so I’ve just been releasing singles at the moment. But they’re all songs I’ve writing growing up, so an album dedicated to my younger self may be in the works.
Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Once I have a few more songs out there, I’ll be hitting the stage! So, stay tuned and get excited!

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Aretha Franklin, Amie Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Alanis Morisset, Freddy Mercury and The Beetles! I could go on! These artists in particular have not only influenced me as an artist but the stories they tell, and their musical abilities are so inspiring and unique. Performing with them would be the most thrilling and incredible experience.
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
My aspirations are less egoistic than what they were when I was a kid. But I’m still dreaming big and hope one day I can make a living from making music and collaborate with my idols.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The feeling is like nothing else. Everyone is there for the same reason, and that’s to have a good time and hear you perform. It gives you such a rush and feeling of support and love. My biggest career highlight so far, was performing alongside Kiss Chasey at Thebarton Theatre back in 2009. Till this day, I remember the energy and connection with the audience. It was electric and an experience I’ll always remember.
