Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
I’ve always enjoyed playing music, but for a really long time I actually wanted to be an actor. It wasn’t until I was around 15 that I decided I wanted to try writing my own music. I suppose you could say I got the ‘song-writing bug’ because I wanted to tell my own stories more than acting out somebody else’s, so music became a big part of my life when I was 16.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I would describe my sound as emotive singer-songwriter yet rock inspired ballads. I feel very comfortable writing songs in this type of style. I think people will resonate with my music because I think the songwriting is authentic and real, and maybe some listeners might relate to it or imagine themselves through my music.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Taylor Swift. I think she’s one of the most impressive songwriters. Her songwriting is honest, carefully crafted and so versatile that she branches a range of genres. It inspires me to try and write songs that are fundamentally relatable and universal, but also interesting and unique.

Your new single ‘Paradise’ has just been released. Describe its origin and evolution.
I wrote it maybe 1 and a half years ago. I took a video of me singing and playing it on Piano and sent it to John Castle asking if he’d like to collaborate. He liked it straight away and we began recording a a couple months after multiple zoom and phone sessions. It was then mastered by Steve Smart early this year.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Definitely, after Paradise I couldn’t stop writing songs. There’s heaps of music I’d like to record and definitely an EP eventually.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m always keen for live performances so I would love to have my own tour. At the moment I’m looking forward to getting back in the studio and recording some more music. I’m looking forward to creating and crafting more songs and potentially an EP, and would absolutely love to tour it one day.

How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
COVID had a big impact on recording, with travel restrictions it was all recorded remotely. However during COVID lockdowns was when I wrote most of my music, in a way I’m appreciative of the long creative space I had to myself to make new things during lockdown, I was grateful for the freedom of exploring different approaches to making music back when I had nothing else to do in quarantine.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Taylor Swift. No doubt. I feel like Swift has been a pioneer for songwriters crafting and owning their own music. She has such a skill for songwriting and storytelling. She also writes songs across a huge range of genres, which is an incredible talent. She’s definitely an idol of mine.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
My dream is to headline my own tour. So much of my music was written on instruments and arranged for a band, so I’d love to be able to one day have a show of my own where I can reimagine some of the songs I’ve written for a live tour.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Last week I got to perform my single at the Great Club Marrickville. I love when a crowd resonates with a song and listens to the lyrics, and I got to experience that at my debut launch show.
