Lavrence, from the Queer fringes of Sydney, has arrived! Posing the question – Why exist quietly when your true self is just waiting to shine? The singer-songwriter is ecstatic to share the universe that he has lovingly created.   Accept Lavrence and come out of the dark – even if it’s just for three minutes.

After that… it’s up to you.

.

.

Has making music always been a part of your life? When did it become a more significant part of your life?
Absolutely, growing up I’d drive my family mad because I wouldn’t stop singing around the house. My twin brother even had to stop playing toys with me because I’d turn everything into a musical. Things got a bit more serious when my parents decided to put me into a performing arts high school where I studied music, dance and theatre.

.

What kind of music did you grow up on? Who were and are your biggest music influences?
I grew up in quite a musical household. Dad was in a band in his earlier days, he’d play artists like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Sting, Supertramp etc. Mum was a proud pop lover – she told me her ‘party trick’ was to tell people her favourite band was ABBA when asked at parties in her youth.

I used to love listening to Supertramp in the car growing up – ‘The Logical Song’ is my all-time favourite song to this day however, I really found my freedom in pop music. I’d race home from school each day to perform to Spice by The Spice Girls (dressing up as either Ginger or Posh).

I’m just very drawn to powerful women who approach pop music in a creative and unique way.

.

‘Shine’ is an awesome upbeat party track. What inspired you to write the song?
Thank you! I had come out of a hard time in terms of mental health after doing a lot of self-work. I was feeling really empowered and ‘Shine’ is a total reflection of that.

.

What can we expect from the release?
A celebration.

.

What do you hope people will get from the song?
I would love people to feel empowered, like they’re the star of their own life when they listen to ‘Shine’. I want to remind people of their internal power and to celebrate that, unashamedly.

.

What are your go-to party anthems?
Nothing beats a little early 2000s RnB and Hip Hop.

.

.

What’s next for you? More releases coming? Perhaps touring?
More of what I’m doing right now! Releasing music, performing and creating art.
Touring is definitely on the cards for 2019.

.

You recently performed at one of Heaps Gay’s club nights in Sydney. What was the experience like?
It was an amazing experience. I love Heaps Gay – I love their parties, the community they bring together and what they stand for. I was so grateful to perform for my own community and to get such a great response.

.

If you could perform onstage with anyone (Alive or Dead!) who would it be?
Mykki Blanco, for sure.

.

What are your major goals or milestones for the future?
I honestly feel like I’m already doing exactly what I want. I just want to keep creating!

.

Finally, this is a paragraph dedicated to some quick discovery. Really corny, but for the fans, can you tell me your favorite album, artist, movie, place, drink, meal and person (living or dead) and some brief reasons why? Answer some or all please?
My favorite movie of all time is Moulin Rouge. The world that Baz Luhrmann was able to create through music, dance and visual art changed me. I recall being so inspired and wanting to create my own lush world to live in. I think that’s really what I strive to do now – be the Auteur of my own life.
