How did you all first get into music? How did the band come together?
I first got into playing music in high school as music was the only elective I was somewhat interested in. The band came together around 2015 as I was in another band that wasn’t doing what I really wanted to do sound wise and eventually found all the boys and the rest is history.
.
What kind of music did you all grow up on? Were you “hardcore” kids or did that love develop later on?
I grew up with a really cheap CD player and had burnt copies of System Of A Down, Korn, Rage Against The Machine. In my teenage years I saw the band Underoath live and couldn’t get over how a band could relate such emotion and was hooked on the hardcore sound ever since.
.
We live in a time poor world these days. How do you find the balance between your everyday life and your musical one?
It’s definitely one of the hardest challenges as a band. With our day jobs and girlfriends and family commitments it can be very difficult and frustrating when things dont align. But as long as things are planned out a lot of that weight is lifted.
.
A little deep here. The life of a performer is certainly a high-pressured one. The demands of being “great” every time you hit the stage mixes thrills with stress and is certainly an acquired taste. Was there a moment you felt “we are in the right place” like you were fulfilling destiny? Or does it feel like that every time you perform?
To be honest I don’t feel like I’ve felt that right place moment. I love playing shows and expressing myself through the music we play but I’m a stress head. In the back of my mind I’m constantly thinking how this comes across and if people “get it”. It’s something I’ve been working on but it’s a thing thats there.
.
You’ve just released your new video “Expand”. Knowing the hard work that goes into producing and creating, you and Nick must be happy with the outcome. Can you describe some of the creative reasons behind the video? Why did you choose this as the first single?
Definitely happy with how it turned out! We spoke with Nick and wanted a video thats short and to the point, Expand being a shorter song and very to the point it made most sense to roll with that. The room we shot it in was extremely hot that day and the tape i had over my mouth just kept slipping right off so we decided to wrap it all around my head and by doing that i think it really made the video look that much more grim.
.
You have your new EP “The Air In My Lungs” out on October 12. Can you tell us something about its origins and evolution?
Myself (Dylan) and Rani spent most of 2017 really going through each song and making it as good as we can make it. Notably the ending track “Intimacy” we rewrote like 10 times from what it was. Overall we’re stoked on this EP and cant wait till everyone gets to hear it.
.
If someone had never listened to *Lifeblood* before, what song of yours would you recommend them?
Our 2nd single “Counter Intuitive” is trademark Lifeblood and we are looking forward to releasing that song.
.
How do you see your sound progressing in the future? Who are and have been your inspirations?
We’re looking to create a sound with a healthy balance of melody, heavy and chaotic sporadicness. Our big influences as a band are Every Time I Die, The Chariot, Norma Jean, Underoath, The Dillinger Escape Plan.
.
Do you have any plans to tour the EP? Do you have any plans for an album?
We’re brainstorming a few ideas as to how tour will go but our next plan is another EP as we’ve got a couple of riffs brewing.
.
Where do you envision yourself to be in your music career 3-5 years from now?
I would love to make a full time career out music but I’m content with playing shows where 100% of it is mic grabs and I don’t have to scream at all hahaha!
.
If you could pick absolutely anyone to bring on tour with you, whom would you pick? (Dead or Alive)
I’d say my good buddy Tim from the band Season Unending. He says the most ridiculous things and would add so much laughter to the tour van. As for someone thats dead I’d say comedian/actor Robin Williams. I feel like he would be very insightful but still hilarious to be around at the same time.
.
Are there any venues or locations you aspire to play in the future? What are your major goals or milestones for the future?
Riverstage in Brisbane, aim high or not at all right?
.
Finally, this is a paragraph dedicated to some quick discovery. Can you tell me your favorite album, artist, movie, holiday venue, drink, meal and person (living or dead) and some brief reasons why?
Album: “We Already Lost The World” by Birds In Row. This is so far my favourite album of 2018 and you should really check this band out!!!
Movie: Check out the Tv show based on the movie “Get Shorty” If you like crime/gangster/mafia type of shows with dark humor give this a watch.
Drink: (Alcohol) Fireball Whiskey. It’s whiskey but with a spicy kick, don’t be a coward now. (Non Alcohol) Kirks Sugar Free Lemon Squash, tastes just like the sugar version but no sugar so win right?
Meal: Don’t comform to the rules and guidelines of others. Make the internet mad and put pineapple on your pizza!
Person: Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. One of the best vocalists to come out of the 90’s and Soundgarden wrote damn amazing songs. If you havent heard the band stop what you’re doing and look them up!
