Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
Since I was around 10 I’ve been creative with writing poems and my own versions of songs. As I child I used to want to be a footballer.

Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it influenced your current style?
I used to listen to everything from rock to rap, when I was around 12 I started listening to grime which totally caught my attention, these days I’m really feeling the drill scene, I feel like it’s a mix of rock and rap and it really speaks to me.

How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as energetic, unique, passionate and fierce.

Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Because it’s catchy it’s full of emotion and energy, I think people relate to that in the modern day climate.

Your new single “Taught Him A Lesson” has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
It’s mainly about negative attitudes and a reminder to the world that my success and happiness is within my control. I just had an emotion inside of me and felt it needed to be released, with a little bit of the Lil Sago spice added in it just snowballed from there. My friend from Year 7 at school produced the beat and I just had to use it, it took me around 2 hours to fully write and organise for recording.

.

.

Do you have any more new music in the works?
Of course! I have a plan to release a few more singles and see how things go, I’ve been working with more artists too.

Do you have any shows/tours coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Yeah, the scene in Carlisle is really building up and many opportunities will be coming not just for me but for the whole scene to show their skills. They should expect carnage, brand new collaborations and a few surprises!

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Tupac! His music gave me strength when nothing else could, a massive inspiration for me and many others in life.

What’s next for you in the near future?
Keep up the grind, stay active and get the next release to raise the bar!

What are your longer-term aspirations?
My main focus is happiness! But to achieve that I feel that I aspire to be as successful as possible, I would say a long term target would be to have 1 million listeners but mainly to stay true to myself and live a good life.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
The rush of energy I get from doing it! It’s a totally different experience from recording, magical for me.

Growing up through the Channel U era and taking inspiration from the raw, vibrant D.I.Y music scene, Lil Sago tucked himself away in the forgotten corners of the north west and invented himself as a bedroom musician. Self-taught through experience and his careful analysis of his favourite musicians, he soon learnt to rap and produce his own records, gaining confidence along the way. Breaking away from the typical career avenues around him, Lil Sago has battled a number of obstacles and negativities to remain focused on his craft. ‘Taught Him A Lesson’ is an ode to the negativity and a reminder that his own passion and progress is paying off.

Building his own repertoire and learning how to self-release, Lil Sago has previously dropped ‘Homer’ with Manchester producer BeatsByAce, self-produced ‘Drippin’ and a 7-track album ‘Real Talk’, an intermixture of Hip Hop, Grime, Trap and Drill. A huge fan and contributor to the scene, he regularly hosts and performs across the county of Cumbria where he’s not only gained a loyal following but also helped build a thriving live scene.
