When did you know you wanted to be a musician? Has it always been a dream of yours?
Yes it has, I have written songs since I was about 5 or 6. I think I just connected the dots really early on that making music was your emotions connecting with your melodies and knew that that was something I needed to do.
What kind of music did you grow up on? Which artists inspired you?
I grew up on R&B mainly, I love Aaliyah and Lauryn Hill, I take a lot of inspiration from them.
What makes you unique? What is it that you think fans resonate with?
I think my fans can relate to a lot of things I write about, it makes me so happy when I have 1 on 1 conversations with them and they tell me my lyrics have helped them.
Can you describe your sound?
When I was younger my sound was more R&B and there’s still some elements of that in my sound but it’s a lot more uptempo now.
Your debut album, ‘High Expectations,’ is scheduled for release August 2nd. Can you share the origins or inspiration behind the album?
High Expectations says everything about me, I’ve set the bar really high and always dreamt big. The name is quite fitting, it describes the expectations I have of myself, that other people have of me and visa versa.
If you could sum up the album in just a few words, how would you describe it?
I want people to take something from every song – I really just wanna make people feel good about themselves and feel confident.
Which tracks are the signature pieces, and which track is your favourite? Why?
My favourite track has to be OK (Anxiety Anthem), its just means so much to me and it sends a really important message.
What is the first thing you will do after the album drops?
Celebrate and sleep!
What kind of impact do you hope your album might have on your listeners?
I hope that my listeners feel empowered and confident after listening to my album.
Who inspires you musically?
Beyonce and Pharrell Williams.
What’s next for you in 2019? Will you be doing any live shows soon?
My album is my main focus and as soon as that’s out I’m just gonna make another one, I’m not going to take any time off. I’m also supporting Khalid on his UK & Europe leg of his tour, super exciting!
If you could perform with any artist, alive or dead, who would they be? And why?
Drake, Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar. They are all just such amazing performers, we’d have a lot of fun!
Do you have any major long-term goals or aspirations?
Keep growing as an artist, I’m incredibly ambitious. I’m one of those people that’s always like, it’s going to happen. A big aspiration of mine is to go on a world tour.
