Have you always wanted to be an artist? When did you get the song writing bug?
I’ve had the songwriting bug since I was about 3 years old when I first touched a piano! I remember annoying friends’ mums when I would go on play dates because I wanted to sing them songs I made up on the spot. Being an artist wasn’t really on the horizon for me until my 20s – I always thought I would write with or for others rather than perform my own songs, but as my lyrics became acutely more personal I felt it only made sense to start trying to sing them myself.
Briefly describe your journey to date.
I started publicly performing at an open mic night in Sydney in around 2017 with my uni friend Tom, who I can safely say kickstarted the whole singing publicly thing for me. There were maybe 3 people in that pub but it was exhilarating nonetheless. From there I started out playing around with indie style vibes, before discovering Plini, TesseracT and Karnivool which reignited a passion for metal I had lost in middle school. I was fortunate enough to work with amazing producers Jon Reichardt and Jacob Wilkes to help me bring my pop-goes-metalcore vision to life and now here I am supporting I See Stars later this year!
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
In a nutshell, it sounds like if Taylor Swift joined a metal band. Pop Sleep Token if you will. I like to think the reason fans resonate with my music is because it’s real, it’s uncensored, and it helps people feel less alone. I’m not shy about sharing my mental health and trauma history and for me that’s healing because when someone else connects with it it helps me feel seen and less alone. In turn, I hope that I can help others know that I stand in solidarity with them through the darker times and know that they’re not alone either. I also think it’s important that we as a society become more comfortable talking about some of these bigger topics so that when shit hits the fan we can reach out and be heard.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
My biggest influences at the moment are definitely Sleep Token and Bring Me the Horizon, but make sure you throw in a little Bad Omens for good luck. It was an absolute treat to see them on the same lineup in April last year for my birthday! Being there in that atmosphere just reminded me how much I want to live for that feeling.
Your latest single ‘HOW I SAY GOODNIGHT’ has just been released! What’s it all about? Describe its origin and evolution.
How I Say Goodnight was planned to be a sad romantic duet, but a switch flipped in my brain listening to the instrumental one night and I decided it resonated more to me as a song about how I was feeling at the time. I was experiencing a new wave of negative thoughts, but having gone through similar feelings before I could recognise what was going on and acknowledge that despite how I felt, I wasn’t going to act. Eventually it became a song to my parents reassuring them that even though things might not be great, I was safe. It’s ok to not be ok sometimes, but it’s important that we are always safe and that we communicate that with those we care about.
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
There may be a few tunes in the wings, but I’m still at a really early stage with growing my audience and I want to make sure that when I am ready to release a larger body of work that it’s going to reach who it needs to.

What tours and events are coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I am super excited to be supporting I See Stars when they come to Australia in October with my 5 piece live band! We’ve just headlined locally and the live team are sounding absolutely incredible. If the last show is anything to go by, there will be circle pits, a few tears, and maybe a few swaying phone torches.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Ollie Sykes (frontman from Bring Me the Horizon). He’s so much fun to watch on stage and I love the way he celebrates other artists.
What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
At the end of the day, I want my music to mean something to the people who need to hear it. If that means there are only 50 people in the world who angry cry to my songs and feel better at the end then reaching them would make me happy. That being said, it would be a dream come true if I could do that at a broader scale. I want what I’ve been through to mean something and I want others who may have similar experiences to feel less alone. I feel like while I’m still really just starting out, my music and stories are really connecting with people and I’m really excited to see where that goes as I reach more people.
With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
It takes time, and that’s ok. You don’t need to be Bruno Mars tomorrow. You just need to be you now, and find what is authentically you.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The best part is connecting with people off stage after the performance. Don’t get me wrong, being on stage is ridiculously fun and all sorts of emotions, but when someone after the show tells me they resonated with my song and/or performance it just makes me feel so warm and remind me why I do it. Sometimes I feel a bit shy with sharing such personal details publicly and so it’s these conversations that give me the confidence and strength to keep going.
What is the:
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done? Got a Shrek tattoo on a whim.
What is the one topic you can talk about for hours? Neuroscience – I love how brains work!
What is the thing you like most about yourself? I like my integrity. I do everything in my power to stick to my values and if I’m going to do something, I 100% commit.
Finally, just a few questions for some quick answers –
