Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
I have always loved singing and playing instruments from a young age. I started performing when I was 26 and fell in love with being on stage however I didn’t have any original music. ‘Giddy up’ was the first song I wrote in a very unconventional way which surprised me and made me realise I have the ability to write songs. From there I began to take both song writing and performing seriously. It has been a slow, expensive but satisfying journey. I am grateful for everything I experienced, people I have met along the way and support from my family and friends.
Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it influenced your current style?
Growing up I listened to a range of genres from country, pop to rock. My country music influences include Shania Twain, Zac Brown Band, Gretchen Wilson and Elvis Presley. Recently I enjoyed listening to Zac Bryan who has had a strong influence on my song writing skills.
How would you describe your sound?
I have been told that I have a raspy country sound similar Miley Cyrus but with Gretchen Wilson vibe.
Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I feel like my music resonates because it is relatable and some songs include a touch of humour which engages the listener.

Your new single ‘Giddy Up’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
I actually wrote this song in a very unconventional way. Prior to ‘Giddy Up’ I didn’t have any original music. I woke up one night at 2am to go to the bathroom and I had a message on my phone from a local pub asking if I could sing for them on Melbourne Cup day. This was the first big venue request in my career. I was half asleep and the song ‘Giddy Up’ came to me. Even though I was still half asleep I sang it into my phone and wrote down the lyrics and went back to sleep. I forgot about the song until 2 days later, checked my phone and to my amazement found ‘Giddy Up’.
I was going through a hard break up at this time and had only written the first bit of the song as I was struggling to finish due to being so emotional. I ended up completing ‘Giddy Up’ a year later when I had come to terms with the relationship breakdown. One thing I love about this song is it goes through two major stages of a break up, denial and acceptance. ‘Giddy Up’ me so much closure and helped me through a tough time in my life.
Do you have any more new music in the works?
I currently have 2 songs recorded ready to release which are both produced by Michael and Caleb Flanders and I am in the middle of recording a third. I have written a really fun song which I would love to record with another female artist later this year.
Do you have any shows/tours coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I am very excited to be a part of the Pre-Muster at ‘Gympie Muster’ this year. This was one of my personal goals this year so achieving that is great news. I am also a headline act at the Mudgeeraba Show in June later this year. I spent my adolescent years growing up in Mudgeeraba so to perform there on the main stage is something I am really looking forward to.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Shania Twain would be a blast to perform with. I feel like we share the same values and after watching her documentary I developed a stronger connection to her and her music as she is such a motivational role model for me.

What’s next for you in the near future?
I would love to take my music to the next level. My next step is to create a band with fun likeminded people and start booking festivals and touring.
What are your longer-term aspirations?
I would love to be picked up by a label down the track. I want to secure my name in the music industry for not only my music but for being a kind and fun artist that others people want to work with.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
I have always loved attention and entertaining. There is nothing better during a live performance than seeing people singing along with you and better yet to your songs. That is when I feel the most joy on stage.

‘GIDDY UP’
.

Rising country rock singer-songwriter Maddie Cail is earning a name for herself in South-East Queensland, captivating audiences with her live performances and is now set to release a new catchy, sassy track entitled ‘Giddy Up’.
Written by Maddie and produced by Nashville based Australian producer Michael Flanders, the track was penned from a personal perspective. Every so often you see someone you know falling in love with the wrong person. ‘Giddy Up’ symbolises the relationship as a gamble, hence why the lyrics include clever betting terminologies throughout the song. Although ‘Giddy Up’ seems like it should be a sad song, it was written to give the listener a sense of closure. At the end of the story, the relationship ends but instead of being spiteful, the person in love wishes them all the best. Maddie hopes the song will resonate with her listeners and aims to give closure to those who need it.
“I am so excited to finally be releasing ‘Giddy Up’. This song is definitely my personal favourite, and I cannot wait to share it with everyone”.
‘Giddy Up’ is a follow up to Maddie’s previous singles ‘Better Than I Am’ and ‘Bad Girl Gone Good’ and comes off the back of supporting industry heavyweights, The Wolfe Brothers earlier this year.
Maddie Cail is known for drawing her audience in with her big personality, unique tone, and quirky original songs but one thing is certain, her star is on the rise, and we expect to hear a lot more from this talented artist over the next few years.
