Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Mario: When I saw Steve Harris from Maiden … Yes … I wanted to. There I put on an imitate the songs of them and other bands. The step was when I became a composer. The first theme that I did in my life was called “greenhouse effect”. I think it was a good song and that’s where it all started.
How did you all find each other and decide to share your musical talents as a group?
Mario: Most of the boys I knew a while ago, with Juan we were classmates, we shared tastes. At that time we learned to take a guitar and satisfy ourselves with metal.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Mario: I think I sound like a fusion of my idols, or my favorite bands, but the technique is what characterizes me, something of thrash and progressive. I think that’s why the other colleagues like it.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Mario: Uffff … a lot … Rush, Voivod, The Beatles, Slayer, Mayhem, Cannibal, Faith No More, Kiss, Sabbath. I could be naming band after band.
Your new Album “Conquering The Deep Cycle has just been released. Describe its origin and evolution.
Mario: Conquering the Deep Cycle is our second full-length, which was released on August 31, 2019. I think it has a different mystique than the first album, in that more work was done on the sounds and techniques, apart from having everyone participate the band members.
What are the signature pieces on the album, and which is your favorite track?
Mario: I think my signature on the records is to put a little more subtlety, sensual rumble…. Hahahahahahaha. I have my touches to put the bass, I do not like to stand out or be the main one. I like that the one who notices what I do, enjoys it, and the one who does not notice it, enjoys the rest.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Mario: We are always thinking of making new music, we already have ideas and riff. The important thing is to have time to develop them, and taking advantage of the worldwide quarantine, we are dedicated to composition.
Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Mario: This year we were scheduled to participate in the Metal Gates in Romania, accompanied by some dates from other parts of Europe, but it will not be possible due to the global contingency.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Mario: I would choose to play a power trio. I would love to have Neil Peart (Rush) on drums, and Denis D’Amour (Voivod) on guitar, and I on bass. Can you imagine the music that we would have composed between the three of us.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
Mario: At the moment I am fully involved with Weight of Emptiness, I want to do many things with the band. I think we lack many ways to follow, in studio, live, collaborations of other artists, etc.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Mario: Everything we have done live has the best of us, whether it is an audience of 5 people or 200 people, the show is the same, and that show expresses the best of us. We give our lives for the show.
