Skerryvore: Scotland’s Musical Powerhouse Returns to Australia
A Musical Journey from Tiree to the World
Scottish band Skerryvore has been captivating audiences worldwide with their unique blend of Celtic rock, folk, and modern pop influences. Since forming on the remote island of Tiree, they have grown into an internationally recognized powerhouse, thrilling fans across Europe, North America, and Australia.
Their name, inspired by the Skerryvore Lighthouse, symbolizes their roots and resilience. Much like the lighthouse guiding ships through rough seas, the band has navigated their way to global success with their infectious energy, powerful instrumentals, and uplifting anthems.
The Evolution of Skerryvore’s Sound
Skerryvore’s musical journey began with a focus on traditional West Coast Scottish music, but their sound has since evolved to incorporate elements of rock, pop, and contemporary folk. Their lineup includes:
– Alec Dalglish (lead vocals, guitar)
– Martin Gillespie (accordion, bagpipes, whistles)
– Daniel Gillespie (accordion)
– Fraser West (drums, vocals)
– Craig Espie (fiddle)
– Jodie Bremaneson (bass guitar)
– Alan Scobie (keyboards)
– Scott Wood (bagpipes, whistles)
This dynamic mix of instruments creates a rich, anthemic sound, bringing traditional Celtic music into the modern era.

Breakthrough Success & Global Recognition
Their latest album, Tempus (2023), marked a significant milestone, reaching #1 on the Official Scottish Album Chart and UK Folk Album Chart. Featuring hit tracks like “You & I,” “Vancouver Island,” and “Eye of the Storm”, the album showcases Skerryvore’s ability to seamlessly fuse tradition with innovation.
A career-defining moment came when they performed “Eye of the Storm” in front of 60,000 people at Murrayfield Stadium, just before a Scotland vs. Ireland rugby match. Such monumental performances have solidified their reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting live acts.
Their 2020 single, “Everyday Heroes,” released during the pandemic, became an anthem of gratitude, raising funds for NHS workers and children’s hospitals.
Australia Tour 2025 – Get Ready to Dance!
Australian fans, rejoice! Skerryvore is returning in 2025, bringing their electrifying live show back to Aussie shores.
After a highly successful 2019 tour that included stops at Port Fairy Folk Festival and Cobargo Festival, the band is eager to reconnect with their Australian audience.

What to Expect?
– High-energy performances filled with bagpipes, fiddles, and foot-stomping beats
– A mix of traditional Scottish melodies and modern rock-folk anthems
– An unforgettable atmosphere that turns every show into a massive celebration
Marty Gillespie reflects on their past Australian tour: “The energy from the crowds was amazing, and the weather wasn’t bad either! We can’t wait to be back.”
The Ultimate Collaboration
When asked the classic question—if he could perform with any artist, dead or alive—Marty had a tough time deciding. While icons like Freddie Mercury and Elvis might seem like obvious choices, his modern-day pick was Coldplay.
“The stuff they do at the stadiums they play right now is absolutely incredible,” he said. “Just looking at some of the backstage footage, it’s incredible to see what they walk out to.”
He also threw AC/DC into the mix, imagining how incredible it would be to share the stage with the legendary rock band.

Advice for Aspiring Musicians
With Skerryvore marking 20 years in the industry, Marty had some words of wisdom for up-and-coming artists.
“You need to be prepared to work hard,” he emphasized. “It doesn’t just fall into your lap. Sometimes you need to put in a lot of graft before you get the opportunity to play the venues and festivals you want.”
He also stressed the importance of being kind. “Always be pleasant to people, whether it’s venue staff or other bands. We’ve been fortunate to travel the world and make so many friends along the way.”
Social media, he noted, is a double-edged sword. While it’s a great tool for exposure, it can also create unrealistic expectations. “Just because something gets hundreds of thousands of views doesn’t mean it translates into a real audience. You still need to get out there and gig.”
The Magic of Live Performance
Nothing beats the energy of a live crowd, and for Marty, playing in Scotland is always special.
“The atmosphere is incredible. Hearing thousands of people sing your songs back to you—nothing beats that buzz.”
While Skerryvore has played everything from small, intimate venues to stadium-sized crowds, Marty enjoys both experiences. “Smaller venues can be nerve-wracking because people are right on you, but they’re also great for building a rapport with the audience. Festivals and big shows are amazing, too. It’s all about balance.”
