Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you start writing music?
I always knew I was going to be a musician, it was an instinct, not something that was going to happen by chance, it had to happen. The first track we did in the studio became a success which is known day as “Boom Selection”. I started writing at the age 10, I’m more of a freestyler, words just flow off the top for me very useful when it comes to making songs.
Which music did you grow up listening to? How has it influenced your current style?
I listened to hip hop, bashment, r&b and my family played all sorts from revival, lovers rock to reggae, soul and rare groove. I would say everything I mentioned plays a part rhythmically but my style would come mainly from hip hop and bashment.
How would you describe your sound?
Music from the origin that encompasses our present. You only have to listen to Genius Cru “Boom Selection” and our latest single Genius Cru “Fiasco” ft MC Fizzy to understand what I mean.
.
.
Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Because we write music from the heart and get into the feelings of others and ourselves this helps the vibe to translate more fluently.
Your new single has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution?
It’s a song that celebrates shapely women dancing and embracing their feminine energy and how that makes the guy feel. It’s Caribbean inspired, with MC Fizzy being part Jamaican and part Guyanese it made a perfect fusion and made it very easy bring the Genius Cru sound up to date he is a very diverse artist and you will see much more diversity in our coming projects.
Do you have any more new music in the works?
We have a song called “Dun Out Here” the vibe is lit everyone keeps asking when that’s dropping. MC Fizzy has a project called “Voodoo Doll” which highlights the current issue surrounding racism in the pipeline and many more tracks to come.
.
.
Do you have any shows/tours coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Kisstory Festival weekender, which I think is July 31st & August 1st 2020.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Tupac and Pop Smoke because their energy is all the way up lit, as an artist I have a lot of energy so the fusion would be a madness.
What’s next for you in the near future?
More music and world touring.
What are your longer-term aspirations?
To help up and coming artist to get further in their careers with a charity I have developed to shine a light on music industry institutions abusing their position and manipulating those who lack knowledge and experience.
.
.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
