Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Music has always been really big for me, I used to spend hours as a kid creating the perfect playlist, but I never thought I could actually ‘make’ music until I was in University.
I studied Law, but on the side I started teaching myself a few instruments and writing songs. I loved it so much that by the end of first year, I stopped going to all my classes. I still managed to graduate, but a soon as I did, I left my law path and decided to pursue a music career.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Imagine if one of those wacky waving inflatable tube guys outside of a car dealership learned how to play guitar but also had a weirdly specific and tragic backstory.
That’s basically how my music sounds.
I think people resonate with it cause it’s fun-dancey pop but with with lyrics that make you go “oh haha this is kinda sad, but also kinda funny cause it’s true”.
Best of both worlds really :)
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Always inspired by Mallrat and the way she expresses complex emotions so simply and elegantly in her music – lyrically she’s incredible – someone I really look up to!\
Your new single ‘Jealous (I Swear I’m Not)’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
I made the song and video by myself in my apartment after I got my heart broken and needed a distraction – (I ended up making 11 music videos in those 2 weeks, was a time…).
I was never planning on releasing it fully, but after posting it on TikTok and Instagram it got a pretty wild response and people kept asking for the full song (even some labels emailed about it!!).
So basically I’ve been bullied (in a nice way!!) into putting this song out! And I couldn’t be happier!
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
There is an EP in the works, putting the finishing touches on it right now :)
Tentative title is “Nostalgia Ain’t What It Used To Be” but will probably change!
You’re playing The Mountain Goat Valley Crawl What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Looking forward to going absolutely buckwild on stage!!
People can expect:
– me, wearing a colourful jacket/pants/shoes/all of the above
– amusing personal anecdotes between songs that make you chuckle slightly.
– (and, most importantly) bad dancing to good songs
I also have unique visuals I’ve programmed for every song so people can stare at that while I’m telling the aforementioned anecdotes.

How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
I think to balance out the lack of shows I’ve been writing and creating a lot more!
During the last lockdown, I made music videos by myself in my apartment – managed to finish about 11 in 2 weeks.
As I said, one of them was ‘Jealous’, which people liked so much, it became a full song!
But now that we’re back, I’m keen to play Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and release all that pent up energy from the last 2 years!
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Gotta be Gorillaz.
They’re kinda the reason I’m doing this darn music thing in the first place! I used to listen to Demon Days as a kid non-stop until I fell asleep.
I wanna be on a Gorillaz song and play it alongside Damon Albarn. That’s the plan.
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
I have three!
Meet Mallrat, be on a Gorillaz album and sell-out a show in space.
(like, ‘Space’ space, y’know, everyone in Zero-G, chilling, plus you wouldn’t ever be stuck behind tall people and not be able to see, you could just float somewhere better).
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The best thing is when people fully let loose and just start dancing – moments like that help me go even bigger as a performer. Playing ‘Jealous’ at my last show was one of those moments!
Highlight would have to be playing the Queensland Music Awards last year at the Fortitude Valley Music Hall! Being on the same night as Cub Sport and hanging out at the after party with Powderfinger, such a crazy night!
Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
