Have you always wanted to be an artist?
In terms of creating, an artist is what I’ve always been it’s just taken numerous forms over the years.
When did you get the song writing bug?
I think when I found out I was related to famous Aussie poet Henry Lawson, I not only told everyone in primary school but became interested in poetry and playwrites. In my teens I’d write songs in secret, loving the process of writing them, but never thinking I was much good at it.
Briefly describe your journey to date.
Music and dance have always been a huge part of my life and creative outlet, after coming up against adversity I had to change my trajectory as a professional dancer, I tried acting which took me to Melbourne where I fell in love with music again and for the first time actually considered it a possible career option.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
Avantgarde pop. I like to think people resonate with the authenticity of shared experience.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
FKA Twigs & Kate Bush’s music and performances are inspiring; they remind me that you don’t have to conform to the status quo to find success.
Your latest single ‘Overkill’ has just been released! What’s it all about? Describe its origin and evolution.
I had experienced an odd relationship. It was brief, but turned cold and I was watching it unfold as if it weren’t my life, kind of numbing really. During a collaborative songwriting workshop, we were given the word ‘home’ as a starting point for writing. When pen hit the paper I was processing, imagining a whole life as numb as I’d briefly experienced. I started producing in Ableton and my two good friends got involved. Clare Fogarty came up with some melodic ideas and also played cello, and Marty Lolkema laid down the bass line. After these few days I continued to develop the track on my own, producing and mixing it until completion.
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
I’ve completed an EP actually! I’ve got another single coming out on November 8th, followed by the full EP early next year.
What tours and events are coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m looking forward to upcoming Sydney shows with my band. Details to come!

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
FKA Twigs & Lady Gaga are at the top of my list – both iconic and brilliant at their craft. I admire that both artists have so gracefully combined their numerous passions into one project, and have had such success in doing so.
What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
I just want to keep creating and exploring… and perform at Eurovision. Seriously though.
With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
Keep creating and finish what you start. I think there are a lot of people who start out with brilliant projects, but it’s hard to get it over the finish line especially as an independent solo artist. Keep going and don’t be discouraged by the noise. I say that as much for others as I say it for myself.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
In this moment it’s become the final stage of this new body of work for me, both exhilarating and terrifying. The best thing is when you’re connecting with the audience and the experience is shared.
Here are three general questions your fans will find interesting about you:
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done? Caught a plane just before a hurricane hit New York City… Worst. Turbulence. Ever.
What is the one topic you can talk about for hours? Probably music, more specifically, audio engineering and production.
What is the thing you like most about yourself? I think my resilience, but also my slightly larger than average eye balls.
