Have you always wanted to be a Singer? When did you get the song writing bug?
Since I could watch Rage TV in the mornings, all I wanted to do was sing, wear leopard print and practically become Shania Twain! I was then enrolled in the National Performing Arts Academy so I could begin to learn how to sing, dance, write and perform. Believe it or not, it did not come naturally to me but I persisted as it was everything I loved. I was however always a natural writer, it started off with poems and wherever I could pick up a pen – I would write.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I would like to describe my sound as an urban flavour mix of pop and RnB. I work with an incredible team to always ensure that the concept is basic enough yet still modernised with a really strong hook. You have a small amount of time to capture the attention of your audience so what better way to do that than by giving them something that’s stuck in their head!

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Beyoncé is my number one inspiration as a woman, she embodies women empowerment, strength, style and hard work I live for those qualities. In terms of where I draw inspiration for my own sound, it’s the likes of Cassie, Tinashe and J Lo.

Your new single ‘Pull Up’ has just been released, describe its origin and evolution?
I worked with an incredible multi platinum award winning song writer Mickey Shiloh on this track and the concept came from me thinking about someone I was currently seeing at the time and how I wanted him to pull up and come over to my place. Even though I knew he was seeing other people, we were addicted to each other. I knew he wasn’t loyal nor was he the one but I wanted this track to ooze a sensual, chilled type vibe that went with the chemistry.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
I’m still not 100% sure about this as I’m really loving releasing singles! I can swap up the style whenever I like and to be honest, I barely listen to anyone’s full albums when they’re released. Not because the content isn’t great, but I like to chop and change between artists and their newly released music.

Any tours or events coming up soon (when things go back to normal)? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I had some exciting performances in the pipeline but it’s really hard to tell when events will be back up and running especially when it comes to crowds so stay tuned for this one!

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
This is a REALLY tough question!! I’m going to opt for Chris Brown. He is a crazy talented vocalist and dancer, I think it would be a wild experience getting to perform next to him.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
The more larger the audience I reach, the happier I am so getting my brand out there a lot more is certainly at the forefront of my aspirations. The music industry is a tough gig, so as long as I’m doing what makes me happy and putting in the work then I’m on the right path, the rest should fall into place!

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The rush of it all for sure, my favourite performance was singing at Gina Liano’s clothing line launch as the models walked the runway. This was super fun and I got to perform in an exquisite gown!

Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –

Aussie Pop & R&B artist
SAMARA
releases new single
‘PULL UP’

*Please note, Samara is currently recovering from Covid-19, please see below for more information..

Australian born, contemporary Pop / R&B singer Samara returns with her newest single of 2020: ‘Pull Up.’ Samara has collaborated with U.S multi-platinum award winning songwriter: Mickey Shiloh and Canadian producer: Brian Whittaker PKA ‘Excel Beats’ (who co-wrote and produced the single: ‘See Me Shine’ for the Grammy Award Winning Bone Thugs-n-Harmony) on this project.

Taking cues and inspiration from the leading ladies in her genre including: J:Lo and Tinashe, ‘Pull Up’ features Samara’s unique vocal range, incorporating seductive influences, whilst creating a single that is a little bit soul, a little bit pop and a whole lot of woman.

It was in 2014 where Samara started to really make a commitment and dedicate herself to her music career due to the loss of her mother.  This huge loss took a huge hit on Samara’s life and her family and it was safe to say she was close to giving up.  Samara picked herself up and got back on her feet with the mentality that you have a choice to continue to sleep with your dreams or to wake up and chase them and that’s exactly what she did.

In 2016 Samara released her first single: ‘Don’t Know’ featuring Sydney based rapper, songwriter and producer Mistah Mez which is at 316,000 views on YouTube.  Samara’s second single ‘Do Right’ was released in April 2017 totalling 212,000 hits, following up with her third single ‘With You’ in October 2017.  In December 2017 shortly after the release of ‘With You,’ Samara then collaborated with US recording artist Calvin Ross, songwriter Danielle Kinoshita and True Knocks Productions to create ‘Dancing on You.’

In 2018, Samara begun building a relationship with Munich based producer Simon Blaze (who has acquired 62,590 monthly listeners on Spotify and over 16.9 million views on YouTube).  Whilst working on: ‘Want from Me,’ Samara begun being both coached and produced vocally, by Melbourne based artist Olivia Escuyos, together with mixing/mastering superstar Eric Erickson.  Since the release of ‘Want from me’ Samara has developed a long-standing friendship and working relationship with both Olivia and Eric who now assist with every project moving forward.

In August 2019 ‘Let Go’ was released where Samara collaborated with UK based producer FlipTunesMusic and Caribbean songwriter Darryl Gervais.  The song has had radio Airplay throughout Korea and has been choreographed on YouTube by the well-known ‘En Dance Studio’ in Japan.  The song has proven successful on Germany’s RnB channel which equates to a total of 87,600 streams since August 2019.

Most recently, Samara was unfortunately diagnosed with COVID-19 and recovering has been extremely difficult.  Having to deal with the virus on her own proved stressful and exhausting.  Inadvertently, it has pushed Samara to work on her dreams and make the most of being isolated, whilst trying to remain positive.  Samara’s new single: ‘Pull Up’ is her most exciting release to date.  Throughout all of her achievements, Samara mostly hopes to make her Mum proud.

Samara says: “I have my mother to thank for my drive, determination and love for music.  If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t even be pursuing this dream in the first place.”
