Melbourne’s very own rock triplets, SheWolf have released their highly anticipated debut album THE OTHER SIDE. These feisty 21-year-old rock chick triplets really must be heard to be believed.

Recently I had a chat with Serena about the album and other stuff.

.

.

How do triplets all agree to do the same thing and get into music together? Where did it all begin and how has the sibling aspect helped or hindered?

It’s always been something we’ve shared a love for, and as kids we were very much into performing arts, music in particular. It all seemed to fall into place after we decided we’d try to play music together, each choosing what we wanted to do in the band and jumping straight into it from there. The good thing about being siblings is that we tend to have the same ideas or vision for what we’re doing and we can generally agree on things pretty easily. When decisions are up for debate, the upside is that no matter how much we differ, we can always get past it and keep working towards our goals.

.

What kind of music did you grow up on? Did you all bloom into rock at the same time?

We grew up on classic rock tunes, with lots of Australian artists, such as Cold Chisel and INXS. It’s something we’ve always known, and even though we each have our own tastes in terms of other genres, it’s the one thing we can all agree on and enjoy equally.

.

How do you find the balance between your everyday lives and your musical ones?

It’s tough, because it absolutely is a labour of love and something that needs a tonne of time and effort, but we all agreed pretty early on that it was something we wanted to pursue and so we’d make it a priority. Between study, jobs and band, we’re kept pretty busy, but we do our best to make as much time as possible, because at the end of the day it’s our passion.

.

You’ve just released your new Album “The Other Side”. Must feel good to get the job completed. Can you describe its origins and evolution? Any special tracks that mean more than others?

It’s so exciting and a relief to finally have it out there for people to enjoy. It’s the culmination of three years of work, and so we think you can really see how we’ve evolved as songwriters and people as you listen to the songs. We like to say that it’s a mixed bag, and that there’s something for everybody. We each have our favourite tracks, but in particular, the title track is pretty special to us, because it’s something new and quite different for us.

How do you see your sound progressing in the future? Who are and have been your inspirations?

We really enjoy experimenting with different sounds, and maybe that’s why we find it a little hard to define ourselves into a specific genre category. We want to keep developing and improving as we write, and as we grow as people, and so it’s kind of hard to say where things will go. We’re excited to see where the music takes us. As for inspirations, we can easily cite Def Leppard, AC/DC, INXS, Joan Jett, and Heart, as the bands that shaped us from a young age, but as modern music progresses, we have to too, and so we have our modern influences as well.

.

If someone had never listened to SheWolf before, what song of yours would you recommend them?

This is another tough one, because we feel like all of them are so different. If you’re into something upbeat and a little jazzy, try Chameleon, if you like something heavier, maybe Circles, if you want a classic-style anthem, One Last Kiss, and if you’re a modern romantic, then go with The Other Side.

.

It’s been about five years now. Where do you envision yourself to be in the next 3-5 years?

Hopefully with a huge catalogue of original songs and a couple of overseas tours under our belts. Travelling and playing music to wild crowds is the dream.

.

Do you have any plans to tour the album in 2018? Do you have any plans for a potential hit at overseas?

Absolutely. Aside from locking down local gigs we’re keen to do some inter-state promotion as well. If the opportunity comes to play overseas, we’d be more than excited.

If you could pick absolutely anyone to bring on tour with you, whom would you pick? (Dead or Alive)

This is a tough one, because each of us would have a different answer. I would say Michael Hutchence, if only for the chance to pick his brain about songwriting.

.

Are there any venues or locations you aspire to play in the future? What are your major goals or milestones for the future?

Is Wembley stadium too tall of an order?

.

Finally, this is a paragraph dedicated to some quick discovery. May sound corny, but for the fans, can you tell me your favorite album, artist, movie, place, drink, meal and person (living or dead) and some brief reasons why? Answer some or all please?

My favourite album is the Lion King Soundtrack because it is spiritually moving, favourite artist is Ed Sheeran because he’s a lyrical genius, favourite movie is The Grand Budapest Hotel, because it is, by all standards, a perfect film, favourite drink is a gin and tonic with extra lime because it’s refreshing and a little bit fancy, favourite meal is a Japanese banquet because one plate is never enough, and favourite people are my dogs, because I think they are actually people.
