For anyone who has not heard your music yet, can you describe your personal sound?
I describe it as – ‘Dark Pop’, A fusion of the pop structure and big orchestral emotion.

Did you always want to be a musician? Where did that desire come from?
Ahh I always wanted to be a musician or a fashion designer! I always just love the way music made me feel or the way fashion made me think.

You have just released your long-awaited single, ‘More Than I’! How long have you been working on the single? Can you share the origins behind the song?
The song has been in the works for a few years now if I’m honest.. I started writing the lyrics when I first came out (AGE 15) I only decided while I was in quarantine after I returned from The US that I wanted to turn it into an actual song.

What does ‘More Than I’ mean to you? Is it a deeply personal song for you?
The song is very personal to me. I wrote it about a time in my life where I came out to the world as myself. There is this very silent moment between coming out and waiting for the other end to respond. For me this song is reflective of that moment and the build up to having the courage to be my truth.

.

.

How do you hope other people will receive the song, and what has the reception from your fans been like so far?
The lyrics are representing the overwhelming push and pull to grow up young, battles of internal frustration, revealing of my sexuality & fighting strong when I was most weak. I’m hoping that even though there is a lot going on instrumentally that at least one person takes this as a message that whatever adversity you are faced with, to remind yourself to always love the person you are in that moment. It has been received with soo much love! Im so proud of the release.

Why did you decide to work with producer Sam Sakr? How did he help bring your song to life?
I have been waiting a long time to release music and honestly it’s because I had not found a producer that fit… after being told about SAKR, I read an article where he said “I tend to process the information of everyone and everything around me, filter it through my brain and then portray those thoughts through sound.” In that moment I kind of just knew it was perfect. He just brought the perfect light and darkness, power and fragility, he really brought it to life.

You made it to the Quarter Finals earlier this year on America’s Got Talent’s! Can you share a bit about that experience?
Well it was definitely in interesting one.. unlike any audition on the show before there was no audience, a missing judge and it was filmed in LA during the start of the global pandemic.. but it didn’t stop me – I flew over to LA from Sydney, Australia and brought my feathers and crystals and gave the best performance I could give. I managed to get all Yeses and 30 million views on Facebook the week that my auditioned Air’d. I made it to the judges’ cuts and through to the finals where I couldn’t fly back to the US, so I performed Kylie Minogue’s’ ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ at an all VIP performance experience at LUNA PARK, that was pretty insane! The Aussie Pop Princess even tweeted about me! I’m so proud to have represented Australia and to bring the androgynous performance style that I do – to the world!

How did it feel to have Kylie Minogue herself congratulate you on your cover of her iconic song, ‘Can’t Get You Out of my Head’?
AHHH took my breath away when I saw it, being a member of the LGBT+. Community, Kylie is like my Beyonce! I was so proud of what I did and even more proud to know that the pop princess loved it too!

.

.

Was there anything about being on America’s Got Talent that surprised you? What was your favourite part about being on the show?
It’s reality TV I was constantly surprised! I made it through with all messes but was unsure if i’d be able to return due to the pandemic. But I received the call and they surprised me with a VIP performance at Luna Park! That was honestly insane!

Were there any downsides to being on the show? If so, how have you coped with those?
The only downside was that I wasn’t able to ever perform in front of the ICONIC GIANT AUDIENCE that AGT is known for. I really feel like the whole season could have been very different if I had a chance to prove myself to that big crowd!

When did you decide to incorporate your unique masks into your performances?
Ever since THE VOICE ALL STARS AUSTRALIA.. I have fallen in love with masks, if I’m honest they don’t really ‘symbolise’ anything super personal, I just find them EXTREMELY FASHION and stunning. I feel like the pop star I always dreamed of when I finish one of my custom looks with a mask covered in crystals of sparkle!

Who are your biggest music influences? How do you draw inspiration from them?
Hard question! I have so many musical influences. Amy Winehouse was the first artist to make me realise how powerful music is. Lady Gaga taught me to be powerful and strong in who I am, Adele told me it’s ok to sing/write about pain/heartbreak but Adam Lambert let me know that even for a man in makeup, there is light for someone like me in the industry.

.

.

If you could perform live with any musician, who would it be, and why?
Ahh. Florence & The Machine.. I would love to create something epic and orchestral! A heartbreaking orchestral bop that makes people cry and dance at the same time.

Are you working on any more new music at the moment? Do you have any plans to release an EP or album in the future?
That’s really what I’m up to now towards the end of the year, I can’t wait to share all my new music with everyone next year. I have been writing like crazy. The music is a lot more relatable and really deep dives into more personal situations of my life.

Do you have any long-term goals for your music career in mind? Or are you just taking it one step at a time for now?
AHH BIG GOALS.. there are a lot but i’ll share a few big ones.. Music – I want to be selected for a 007 soundtrack as the featured singer. Fashion – I would love to be the first Australian Male artist to walk down the MET GALA carpet in his own design.
