“Hard hitting Aussie, Punk Rock!” Tom Forrest – Triple J
“It’s loud, obnoxious and full of sound. It is like Ska meets Garage, Nu Metal/Thrash and it’s insane in the best way.” Claire Mooney – Triple J

How did the band come together? Is there someone who is a “driving force”, or do you all make decisions together?
I think it’s a combination of both, I have all of these ideas because my brain moves at about 2,000,000,000 miles an hour So when I come to the lights with ideas it’s usually nine at once! From there we sort of workshop things because I’ve always believed that the collaborative process helps make the product so much better! It’s also really cool that they have enough trust in me to make good decisions in terms of the music. When it comes to recording it’s even more collaborative because I sort of have an idea of what I want from each instrument and for the vibe of the song but I’m sort of just like “okay do whatever you need to do to make it sound good and if you like it that should be sweet”.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
The sound is kinda like if pop punk had a baby with ska-rock and then had like step-kids with rap. It’s a bit of a jumble of genres that I’m influenced by!
I still find it really hard to believe people resonate with the music but when people come up to me and they’re like “oh this song is really cool”, I always feel really blown away! If I had to guess, people resonate because I always strive to be honest and exactly who I am in these songs, I think that’s just the best policy to have with an audience.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
So the boys in my band are all influenced by different stuff from different people, but I would have to say any band that goes out there and puts on a massive show regardless of whether they’re playing to four people or four thousand, is super cool.
Bands like Nothing but thieves, Bring Me the Horizon and Red Hook along with solo artist like YUNGBLUD, Grandson or even like…Britney Spears have all inspired the sound and the music. Artist that push boundaries, which is what I’ve always found super cool about music! ESPECIALLY punk rock! I always thought Jack White put on a really cool show, and even bands that are more chill in terms of like their music go off on stage like Sticky Fingers are bloody mental.
Your new EP ‘Politics and Other Drugs’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
So to begin with I had like a list of five or six songs that I made demos of in my back room and they were Mr Prime Minister, We’re All Going To Hell and DEAD FOR THE WEEKEND.
I really liked showing these to the lads because every time I did they got really excited! From there we had a bunch of sessions where we would go and practice or jam and we sort of came back with cooler versions of the songs.
I wrote Faking after many, many hours of being in my head, and then I wrote Danger a little while after meeting someone who had a huge positive influence on my life! We did our entire recording with Timothy McArtney at Pale Blue Dot Studios in Surrey Hills, Sydney.
The process was a massive evolution; I would go in with a demo and it would come out something completely and utterly different once the boys got a hold of it. The best example is Power because it sort of just evolved into this different monster with choirs and warped guitars and mad builds and that.

Is there an Album on the drawing board?
Look, I think we need a lot more time to do an album for the moment. I think it’s such a single and EP driven market for independent and budding artists! I think we will probably just keep pumping out the best music we can until we come to a point where people are okay we really want an album.
Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I really want to do a small tour on the East Coast of Australia and just do a bunch of regional towns and some of the bigger places like Newcastle, Central Coast, Wollongong, Sydney and Melbourne places like that.
We have a show at the UC Hub on December 9 to launch the EP!
Every single time I go on stage I attempt to make people in the crowd as tired as possible from jumping, singing and going mental.
I don’t want people to be able to go and have a night out after the show, like, I want people to come away and be like; DAMN I need a Cuppa Tea and a nap! It’s generally just a (very safe, very inclusive) riot at the show.
How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
COVID basically delayed practices delayed the EP, delayed singles, delayed shows …it basically decimated the music industry about as much as you can expect. We got a lot of help from the people who are listening, from the fans. And I got through it PURELY on the backs on the most supportive team ever! I would message people being vastly depressed and they would message back being like “dude it’s okay like just keep going, keep trying to get there” which was what got me through!! Balancing COVID losses was basically just me seeking support from the people around me.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
I would love to perform with the OG wiggles…the original line-up…THAT WOULD GO BLOODY INSANE. Their show would literally be banger after banger and I would die to do Big Red Car with them on stage. No Joke, the original wiggles!

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
Absolutely! I want to sell out international tours, I want to meet as many people and connect with as many people as I possibly can on this journey and reach out to a community of people who are out there that feel like me. I’m not so concerned with like awards and that, but I do want to do shows all over the world! I also want to work with as many cool artists as possible, making cool music that means something is the best long-term aspiration I have, that’s forever.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The best thing is the feeling you get when there are even two people who are happy to see you.
The last show we did, I went on-stage and it felt like I was accepted and like I belonged…Its just so cool to see a whole room moving to a song you wrote, so many people having such a blast!
Career highlight had to be a wall of death at our first show. It was literally a wall-to-wall split down the middle, DID NOT expect that. I don’t think the venue did either…I think they saw its happening and were like…. “s**t”!
