Project Description

Interview with Stan Walker

Tomorrow Stan Walker will headline Camp Gallipoli at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse with a full show as well as meet ‘n’ greets with the star and a screening of TELEGRAM MAN. Amnplify’s Pauli Dee spoke to Stan about what he has planned for the show, what inspired him to get involved & they also spoke about the devastating news of the death of pop legend, Prince.

Pauli: Hi Stan. Happy Friday – What’s on for your day?

Stan: Well we just finished training, which is like a miracle for me & now we’re just going to rehearse and make music!

Pauli: You don’t train very often?

Stan: I just started getting back into it. The first time for a long long time!

Pauli: OK & are you rehearsing for Camp Gallipoli? Or something else?

Stan: Yes! My dancers are in New Zealand at the moment, but they’ll fly in tomorrow, so I have to rehearse so I look as good as them!

Pauli: So are you doing a full show for Camp Gallipoli?

Stan: Yes, I’m doing a 40 minute set and I’m bringing my dancers along. I really want to give everyone a GREAT show. I don’t want to just sing a couple of songs. I think sometimes as artists, we just come & do our thing. But for this I really want to put on a good show.

Pauli: What made you want to get involved with something like this?

Stan: I remember when we were approached by them & I was just reading what they’re all about & I feel like I’m the perfect example of… I’m a product of ANZAC. I’m an Australian-born Kiwi. I’ve spent half my life in both countries, I’m a staunch Maori but I’m a staunch Aussie as well & I’ve had family fight so that we can have the lives that we’re living today so I really honour the people that have gone before us in New Zealand and Australia and I feel like this generation doesn’t really care for ANZAC, it’s just another holiday for them, but this is something I really want to be a part of because it’s celebrating what ANZAC day is really about. Camp Gallipoli are really educating this generation & this generation is probably the hardest because it’s a social media generation. They’re connected, but not really connected, so I’m really excited to do this. Really excited…
