Have you always wanted to be a musician?
I went through a few stages as we all do but music has been on the mind since I was about 9 and never really left. I’ve never been more passionate than now however.
When did you get the song writing bug?
I started late on the songwriting front, I was more into guitar and learning my favourite Chili Peppers, John Butler and Incubus tracks! It wasn’t until after school that I started writing my own songs and since then It’s the only thing I do.
How would you describe your sound?
Uplifting indie, folk, pop with a little touch of bedroom producer vibes.
Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I think what the folk scene in Aus does really well is honesty. I definitely write from a personal place and stick to what I know and believe in, I also record in my bedroom or at my mates so it’s all coming from an organic place. I think people really enjoy that transparency.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
My first big wow moment was a John Butler concert, then it was Xavier Rudd and Fat Freddy’s Drop. Now I like so much music that I’m getting inspired by sounds from anything that catches my attention, that could be Kanye West to Parcels.
Your new Single has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
So Blood Rush was written at a Songhubs songwriting camp on the Gold Coast earlier in the year. Tom Eggert, Josh King and myself were in the studio. I came up with the guitar part and I had the melody for the verse and little keyboard hook. I then had the idea to write it about me trying to make it while my partner is stuck at home working a real job and the struggles that can happen from that. Tom and Josh then started floating so many great lines, new melodies for the chorus / bridge and production ideas. It was the first writing session that just felt natural, everyone was pumped on the song. After I took the song away I realised it was a little too produced for my vibe so I made a make shift studio in my aunties studio in Kin Kin. It was there that I recorded real drums and the other instruments to get more of a natural feel, that’s when Tia entered. It felt like it could have a really cool ‘Young Folks’ kinda vibe to it, Tia was stoked to a part of it and I ended up recording her vocals at her place in Brisbane.
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
I’ve been working on an album, there is still a lot to do but I’m very happy with the songs.

Any tours or events coming up soon?
We will be announcing a few QLD shows in the coming days, restriction permitting of course.
What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m looking forward to being able to tour and bring all of these new songs that are coming out to a live setting. I’ll have a few band mates joining when we can so it’ll be a very fun show.
How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
I’ve been very lucky to be able to get a few really great shows done last year and recently but it’s been tough. Unfortunately there is not a replacement to balance the losses, live shows are such a big part of the modern musicians income stream. That’s where you sell merch too!
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Bob Marley! His music just makes ya feel good, messages of love and hope. To share in those vibes and bring that energy to the world would be incredible.
Do you have any long term aspirations as a music artist?
I’d like to be making music 15 years from now, so for me longevity is one of my goals. In terms of shows, I’ve always dreamt of playing that Glastonbury stage! haha
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience?
Energy, you can’t beat it. No amount of streams, like or shares compares at all to hearing people connect, sing and dance to your songs live.
What’s been the career highlight so far?
I supported Xavier Rudd throughout Europe in 2019 and it was incredible to play those amazing venues night after night with a great crew.
