Interview With

THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES

.

.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones became the ambassadors of the 90s ska explosion (the third wave of SKA) by forging new territory and being one of the first, if not the first band to cross high-energy ska with hardcore punk. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have stuck more pins in the map and racked up more tour miles than they can probably remember, earning themselves the reputation as one of the hardest working bands in rock. Now Boston’s best dressed band are back and have released their first new studio album since 2011 titled “While We’re At It”,  on June 15th. Dicky took the time to answer some questions we had about the bands newly released 10th studio album.

.

.

How did you first get into music? How did your career first begin?

When I was just lad, I had an enormous love for popular music and rock ‘n’ roll and wanted nothing more than to be a part of it. When I heard punk rock and ska music for the first time, my dream, although still a dream, seemed slightly more tangible.

.

How do you find the balance between your everyday life and your musical career?

I don’t really think about it or look for any sort of a balance. Those two things are the same for me.

.

You are about to release your 10th album, ‘While We’re At It’. How did you feel about the release of that?

I am very proud of the record and very excited about it’s pending release.

.

How do you feel this album has progressed since your earlier works? Do you try to grow your style or continue to produce what you know works well?

We are who we are and we understand that. But we are always striving to be the best Mighty Mighty BossToneS we can possibly be and better than we’ve ever been before.

.

You have been credited as one of the first bands to popularize the genre ‘ska punk’ in the musical mainstream. How do you feel seeing others take on this genre that you arguably created?

Being pioneers is something that is dear to us and something that would be difficult to take away from us. 99% of what people who love Ska music and SKa influenced music do to it – I have no problem with.

.

Do you have any plans for 2018? Touring the new album?

There are lots of plans for The Mighty Mighty BossToneS in 2018 and touring is a part of those plans.

.

.

If you could pick absolutely anyone to bring on tour with you, who would you pick? (Dead or Alive)

I would love to go for support run with Madness or Neil Diamond. Do you hear me guys the balls in your court.

.

Are there any venues or locations you aspire to play in the future? Any major goals or milestones?

Being Mighty Mighty BossToneS for as long as we’ve been Mighty Mighty BossToneS is pretty great and very special to us. Anything on top of that is gravy on the cake.

.

Do you find there is a fan favourite of all your songs, if so which song is it. And do you see this favourite changing with this new album?

My current favourites are all on the new album “The Mighty Mighty BossToneS- While We’re At It” I also like the song we wrote called “Don’t Worry Desmond Dekker” that one’s been a lot of fun to play lately. After every Mighty Mighty BossToneS performance at least 10 different iPhone filmed versions of “The Impression That I Get” appears on social media sites – so I guess people still like that song.

.

You’ve been hosting the Hometown Throwdown festival for many years now. Is there any particular artist you’d love to see play the festival alongside you?

It’s less of a festival in more of a Mighty Mighty warm and wonderful Holiday experience.

With such an extensive discography, does it get difficult to curate a set-list? Especially now with the new music?

My partner in crime and the master mind, Joe Gittleman the Bass Fiddle-man is the set list curator. It is an awesome, often daunting and difficult task that he takes care of with ease and elegance.

.

What’s one question you wish people would ask you about your music.

Why do you think your so damn handsome?
