How did you first get into music? When did it become a serious concern?
I have always been into music, making my own dance routines when I was little to fave records and writing songs. I started thinking about music as a career in high school and followed it through when I left university.

What kind of music did you grow up on? What artists inspired you and which do you still look to now for ideas?
I listened to Coast with my dad in the car often so was introduced to 50s-70s music such as the Beatles, Stones, Everly Brothers, Nancy Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Doris Day etc. I loved finding songs from movie soundtracks or the radio and making my own mixtapes too.

Has making music always been a part of your life?
Totally. I feel like music raised me. I wrote poems and little ditties when I was in primary school and carried on from there. It calmed me and made me feel found and inspired.

Your new single, Candy, has just been released. What inspired the song?
I like to say its avant-pop. A collision of grunge, gloss and grit. CANDY is about the beauty of idiosyncrasy. ‘I’m just living life and I love it how I like.

The music video is intense! Was it fun to make?
It was so fun. I sourced and styled the clothing and designed the hair and makeup looks then worked with cinematographer/ director Zara Gilbert to shoot the visuals on site with her amazing team and vision. The footage was then given to Mardo El-Noor, a graphics artist and editor who joined everything together with a mood board of various references I was into and what you see is the result!

What does your song writing process look like?
Sometimes I start with a lyric, a word or a mood, other times I have a production idea or a melody and go from there.

If someone had never listened to Theia before, what song of yours would you recommend if they could only listen to one?
Candy!

You have performed alongside some huge artists recently. Can you share any moments from onstage (or offstage!) that have stuck with you?
I loved meeting and hanging with Charli XCX and MØ on the Sia tour. Theyre qweens at karaoke!

If you could pick absolutely anyone to bring on tour with you, whom would you pick and why?
I think it would be incredible to go on stage with Nico and The Velvet Underground in 1960s New York!

Who are your major music influences?
I am inspired by artists who push lyrics and melodies like poems. Whose music really makes me feel something whether ecstasy or melancholy.

How do you like to unwind when not performing or making music?
Catching up with my friends, finding cool food haunts and secret vintage spots, long drives to beaches or wherever, movies, nature, listening to my fave music with candles.

What are you planning to do next? Is there any more music in the works?
If its going as planned, by the time I release a single, the next one is on the way to being finished. Thats where Im at – watch this space – also another record.

What are your major goals or milestones for the longer-term future?
To continue making music and imagery I love with cool people, to travel and perform .
