Have you always wanted to be an artist? When did you get the song writing bug?
I think I have always had it in me but for a long time I didn’t think it was possible that I could write a song, let alone be an artist. I was encouraged to write by a couple really supportive teachers while I was recovering from an accident that left me bedridden for a while. Ever since then, it’s just been a thing I’ve done.

Your music past has had highlights like being a Triple J Unearthed finalist in 2019, and having Paul McCartney praising your voice. With these as prompts, can you briefly describe your music journey to date?
There have been some proud moments for sure. Triple J Unearthed High was my first step into the industry, I was lucky to have become a finalist. It led me to many great opportunities like touring nationally, finding a small team and meeting my producer Dean Tuza. We created my EP ‘Fre$h Hugs’ together in 2021 and have now created a new body of work which I am very proud of. I have released two singles from this upcoming project and can’t wait to share more. And yes, the Paul McCartney thing is a very crazy moment. David Kahne, who worked across my song ‘Okay’ and 5 tracks from my upcoming project, created a beautiful string arrangement of ‘Yesterday’ for a possible sync landing. I sang the song and David showed it to Paul!

How would you describe your music? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
I describe my music as alternate pop/folk but this changes everyday haha. I’ve got so many different influences, so there’s a big mix of inspirations that end up forming my music. The initial stages of my writing process are very folky and stripped back though, which is why I add that term in there. I don’t know why, maybe because they relate to what I’m singing about!

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
A performance that I always watch and listen to is Finona Apple singing her song ‘I Know’ Live at Largo. It’s so intimate and beautiful. I also always go back to watching Chris Isaak singing ‘Wicked Game’ 1995 MTV Unplugged. This song will always be stunning and the way they are playing seated in a circle facing each other is so cool.

Your latest single ‘LOOK AWAY’ has just been released! What’s it all about? Describe its origin and evolution.
‘Look Away’ is about the fear of vulnerability. I wrote it with an artist called Elizabeth. I didn’t particularly enjoy writing sessions back in the day but I felt so comfortable writing with Elizabeth. This song then developed into a lovely soft love ballad with strings, drums and organ floating throughout. Again produced by Dean Tuza and string arrangements by David Kahne.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
To be announced very soon :))

What tours and events are coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’ve just played an intimate sold out headline show at Abbotsford Convent and I am currently planning some more just like this in regional areas around Victoria… Again more announcements to come as well as lots of new music! I am very excited.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Cat Power is my #1, so definitely her!

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
My ultimate dream is to play in beautiful theaters across the world. All of the live strings across this next body of work have been transcribed so that they can fold up or down from a full orchestra to a quartet. So I am very much ready in case someone wants to book me to play at their theatre with a full band and strings haha.

With all that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
I would just say to keep dreaming big and have fun with it. Meet other artists and create your own community of like minded people.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The best thing about performing to an audience is physically seeing your music resonate with people. My favourite part of my career so far was when we recorded the live strings across my new music. It was incredible to hear it come to life. I wish I could go back to that day to feel it all again.

Now for some quickfire questions to get a little personal:
1.What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done? Started a music career
2.What is the one topic you can talk about for hours? My dog
3.What is the thing you like most about yourself? That I’m not allergic to anything
Finally, let’s find out what your current (or all time) favorites are –
Album – ‘Fuzzy’ – Grant Lee Buffalo
Artist – Cat Power
Movie – Ghost
Place to visit – My Nana and Pa’s home
Venue to play – Beleura House & Gardens
Food – A really good burger
Drink – Coffee
Person in History – Nick Drake ( if you mean favourite person who has died)
Tattoo – I don’t have one, and I don’t think I will because I’m too indecisive haha
