TYLER RIVERS

“The sprawling new single from Tyler Rivers, is a seemingly flawless slice of neon-coloured R&B.”– HHHHappy Mag

.

After releasing his highly-anticipated single ‘Take You’ through a glowing premiere with HHHHappy Mag, an exclusive launch party at The Manor and through Warner Music Australia, Tyler Rivers returns with slick new visuals for the single, dropping September 17th.

Following on to extend an already impressive career for Tyler Rivers, from supporting Trey Songs late last year to August Alsina on his Don’t Matter Tour in front of 2,000+ at Metro City, ‘Take You’ shows a stylistic maturity that places Rivers in his own lane. The music video showcases a spellbinding city ambience, riddled with neon and city-lights blended through smoke clouds to perfectly compliment the late-night-drive feeling of the single. Featuring a Porsche-lit underground carpark and rooftop scene this video truly reflects the party-vibe portrayed through the lyrics.

.

.

What’s your earliest memory of being inspired to pursue music as a profession?

To be honest, very early on. I remember writing songs way back when I was 6 years old. I kept writing and listening to all types of music, and then picked up my first instrument when I was 9. I learnt violin for a little bit, and then self taught myself guitar when I was 13 and moved on to piano when I was 14.

.

What artists inspire/influence you the most?

As I was growing up through my early teens I admired Usher, Chris Brown and Justin Bieber, Ne-yo. But nowadays I find influence through Post Malone, The Weeknd, and a whole bunch of lesser known underground new wave R&B artists.

.

Is your family musical? How have they influenced your music?

My dad is very musical. He played piano since he was a kid, and would have loved to pursue music as a career but after school ended went down a different pathway. He inspires me a lot. Even generations before my Dad were all musical. I definitely get it from my Dads side.

.

What are your most powerful musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?

I have a few memories that come to mind. Growing listening to my Dad play piano. Watching Justin Bieber perform at his first Perth show.

.

What are some of your favorite records of all time?

Michael Jackson – Man in the Mirror

The Script – Breakeven

Ne-yo – Because of You

Boyz II Men – End of the Road

Tank – I Can’t Make You Love Me

.

What artists has your sound been compared to?

Haven’t really been compared to anyone before, but if I had to say someone maybe Post Malone.

.

Have you been in competitions or won any notable prizes?

I opened for August Alsina and Tory Lanez.

.

Have you performed in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, festivals, radio, TV, busking?

I used to busk A LOT when I was 14, 15, 16. I used to busk in the City and at Beaufort St Festival. Plus many stage shows in and around Perth.

.

What is the best advice you ever received towards your music?

The best advice would be do not worry, do not overthink. Just make music you love and makes you feel good. Being yourself is a big one. Corny, but true.

.

How often are you in the studio? What makes a good session?

I am in the studio every day. Either in my actual studio or at home.

Good vibes are key to a good session. Keeping it spicy. Having good banter with the people working with you. Being able to have serious session but fit in a laugh here and there to keep the vibe is important.

.

Is there anything you believe should be changed in the music industry?

Artists need to support each other more. Easier access to spread my music to bigger audiences.

.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – friends, children, job?

I always keep music as my number one priority. I’ve quit my day job to pursue music and have lost some friends here and there along the way, but my true friends have stayed and support my dream 100%. It means a lot to me.

.

What is your most proud musical achievement?

Releasing my first song under Warner Music has been huge for me. Opening up for August Alsina was also massive.

.

Any shows coming up?

Fuck, I hope so.

.

What does the rest of the year have in store for you?

Focusing on my second single release, and more songs for my EP.

.

If there is one main message you hope people can take from your music, what is it?

Enjoy life as it comes. Don’t take everything so seriously.
