Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the songwriting bug?
Yes, I knew from a very young age, although I got a late start. I knew from the minute I was kicked out of the school choir that it was my calling LOL. The songwriting bug happened a bit later. I vividly remember writing my very first song – I just needed to express myself. From there I got hooked.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your  music?
I would say my music is inspirational upbeat soulful dance pop predominantly, but with most of my songs I just want to make people feel good. They’re not super dark or moody, but they sell for an emotiion, whether I’m doing a dance record or an indie pop electro song.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
I was really inspired by Billie Holiday to start singing. Honestly it’s the true jazz vocalist of the time that inspired me. Their instruments are so emotive and that’s what I look for in a singer. For me the voice is an instrument and a powerful tool that’s utilised to provoke someone to feel emotions.

Your new SUPREME album has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
I wanted to make an album that went back to my original roots when I first started music during my indie pop days. It was a chance for me to indulge, go back into the studio and work on records that fused several genres of music together. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a nice break for me from making my classic big dance records.

What are the signature tracks on the album, and which is your favorite?
I would say ‘Supreme’, ‘This is Our Moment,’ an anthemic ballad, and ‘Viva La Fiesta.’ which is my favorite, I love that one. I’m a fan of the whole Latin Afro beat vibe.

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can  the fans expect?
Yes indeed. I’m performing next week in Miami for the EDMA Awards. Last year I was the first woman to win the EDMA ICON Award, so it is special for me to go back this year to perform and present the next icon award. After that I’m performing at the House Of Blues kicking off my Live Nation US Tour, in San Diego, CA. Then I take off to Australia where I will be presented with a very special award for one of my songs that’s gotten to 2 billion streams. I will be performing at the awards ceremony in front of all my musical peers and supporters back in Australia. I’ve also been performing in a festival up north in Australia, where bands and artists like Macklamore will be there.  It’s like a Coachella Festival. I will then be going to London on a riding trip. Finishing up new records, it’s a busy time. There’s a lot going on at the moment but I’m looking forward to creating new songs. And I can’t wait to share the new song with my fans that comes out in May called MIDNIGHT. I just shot the music video yesterday and I can’t wait for everyone to see it

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And  why?
Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Bono from U2, Kylie Minogue, Pink …. Calvin Harris, The Neptunes, Bruno Marz… Gao Gilberto, OMG the list goes on. LOL

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing  towards them?
I think I just want to continue making great songs that I enjoy making and that I’m proud of. I love connecting with my fans through my music so if I can continue to make songs that inspire people and somehow have an impact on them in their life, then that’s what I want to do. As long as I can..

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
I would say to never give up. That rejections are just re-directions. Stick to plan A, no plan B or plan A gets compromised.
You have to manifest your dreams. It is you who will drive them, it is you who will make them happen.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career  highlight so far?
I love seeing people’s reactions. I made people cry at one of my shows. I had a guy come up to me at the end of the show and said ‘I never cry and you made me cry.’ That was really special. I just love people feeling things, experiencing emotions through my songs. I’ve also had people play my songs on special occasions that I have marked milestones in their life, like weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and it always makes me feel like I’m somehow part of their life. It is very special to be invited into someone’s world like that.  Look, I love all my performances. Every performance has a special moment. I of course enjoyed performing with Tiesto at Tomorrowland Festival Main Stage. The amount of people in that field, it’s insane. It’s literally the largest crowd in the world at a festival. There’s nothing quite like it. It was definitely a very sensorial experience. I enjoy performing acoustic songs for smaller Internet crowds as well. It’s a very warm and cozy feeling you get to share stories you get to make people laugh and cry – and it’s just very moving to me to experience that with them.
