PRAISE FOR VAST HILL
“Get your dystopian dancing shoes on. You’re going to be boogying like the world has been taken over by an A.I. robot” Music Feeds
“Their preference for ‘80’s soundscapes is a perfect fit for this remix. Sugar sweet vocals, some slight guitar effects and a stiff drum machine all sound fantastic.” – Hey Nineteen
“A synth delight that sounds like an outtake from the Drive soundtrack. The Chromatics-like synth work and instrumental is complemented beautifully by singer Elle Kress” – We All Want Someone To Shout For (NY)

How did you first get into music? When did it become a serious concern?
Music in general? We both grew up listening and playing music, but in regards to Vast Hill – we started writing a couple of songs here and there while on the tail end of our other band petering out. We started to really take notice that it might be something we could push a lot harder when we got thousands of plays and listens on Youtube and people saying they wanted more…so we tried haha
What kind of music did you grow up on? What artists inspired you?
For Elle it was definitely Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Beatles.
For me it was The Beatles, Barry White, and Hall and Oates
How did you meet and decide to make music together?
We met at college here in Sydney. We didnt really know we could write or play music together until a year or so into our relationship. We grew up on very similar influences so everything we would write apart from each other would always sound so appealing to the other one of us…its was like “hey, I like that song, I wanna help”.
How would you describe your sound?
It would be a fusion of out love between 60s/70s melodic songwriting, meets the influences of 80s sights and sounds.
For anyone who has yet to listen to Vast Hill, what song would you recommend they hear first?
Make sure in you’re in a mellow mood with the lights down low and no one to disturb you. Light some candles and blast our first ever Single “Will You Love Me In The Rain”.
What inspired your new single, ‘Heartbreaker’?
The sounds and feel of the track took influence from Touch Sensitives Visions album. We really dug that and really love disco grooves too.
The theme of the track was also inspired by a real life event about a loved one getting involved in destructive relationship and there was very little you could do to stop them. Kinda sad really but the song doesn’t come across that way, haha.

How did you get Luke Million (I Know Leopard, Stranger Things soundtrack) on board to mix the song? What was it like working with him?
We found out Luke mixed and helped produce the I Know Leopard “Love Is A Landmine” album. We loved his stuff before then, but what he did on the “Landmine” track was outstanding. We bumped into I Know Leopards frontman (also Luke) and he told us to get in touch with him. We sent Million our unmixed demos for the album and he loved it and wanted to work on it, so it blossomed from there.
Luke Million has a nickname here in the Vast Hill house, he’s called King Midas! Coz he touched our album and turned it into audio gold!
When will your debut LP, More Than You Imagined, be released?
We cant give you an exact date yet, but definitely 2019 Q2.
Will you be touring once the LP is out?
Heck yes! We wanna go up to Brissy, Gold Coast, Canberra and then Melbourne.
If you could pick absolutely anyone to bring on tour with you, whom would you pick and why? (Dead or Alive)
Is it someone to just bring with us to hang out with? Coz we’d hands down pick Ricky Gervais. Could probably get him to open for us doing the David Brent songs!!!
What else have you got planned for Vast Hill in 2019?
We’ve spent so long trying to figure out how to do an album and want to get better and faster at it. We’d love to put this new lesson into play before 2019 is over with.
Do you have any longer-term aspirations? Where do you see yourselves in two years time in your music career?
We’d love to just keep writing music and playing shows to people that like what we do. A dream would be to be in an all-star Aussie band lineup and be like 2021’s version of the Travelling Wilbury’s.
