Embarking on his musical journey at the age of 13, the self-taught musician immersed himself in a variety of instruments, which set the foundation for his musical development. Honing his craft. Venetian went on to share stages with musical icons such as Iggy Azalea and McBusted. The hotly tipped musician has received staunch support for ‘Feel Me’ already, after entering the track in the Spinnin’ Records competition. After placing second, Venetian decided this was the perfect cut to establish his new sound and serve as a taster of what is to come from the multi talented singer, songwriting producer.

Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
“Ah legit it feels like forever! I was about 13 when I got my first Casio keyboard. It was one of those ones with the ‘dj’ features (biggest tune maker at school in music class, just saying) and a sort of ‘guide’ on how to play the pre-loaded songs.
That’s what got me into making my own music, before getting that keyboard it was just a sort of lust I had, seeing all these artists performing filled me with so much wonder and awe.
So, thanks mum and dad! Crazy how a little thing can set someone off for the rest of their life.
Not long after this I fell in love with You Me At Six, I used to sit and watch all their videos, interviews, backstage vids etc. Guess I was what you’d call a superfan. This gave me even more drive to pursue my own music.
I went from band to band, never really finding the right….style, but massive respect to those guys in those bands who are still pursuing their music too, I want us all to grow together.”
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
“Music to me is a way for me to vent, to imagine, to hope you could even say. Most of the songs I write, I create a story in my head for. If you ever want to learn who I am, listen to my songs.
They tell my story far better than I ever could…
The crazy part is my team will tell you just how much my songs change from the initial demo to the final track, it’s all dependant on my vibe when I go to the studio, and every track I make is totally unique in that if you asked me to recreate it I’d find it impossible because I’d have to be in the same mindset I was back then.
Some tracks are summer bops, you know, just feel good vibes, others have a deeper more ominous aura to them. I hope people resonate with the tracks (and the future releases I’ve got ready) in the same way I did when I wrote them. They’re all part of my story, my life, my dreams, so I think it’s amazing to be able to share it with others who’ve had that experience.”
.
.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
“Josh Franceschi – You Me at Six
Him and his band are a totally different genre to what I make, but when I was younger it was those guys who gave me the drive to make my own music.
There’s a load of people who inspire me, DJ’s like Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto. Singers like Ne-Yo, Jared Leto.
Current music I’m loving Lauv, he’s got a unique style to his tracks, L Devine’s sweet too, Shawn Mendes also.
There’s also artists like San Holo – took me forever to release what that’s a spoonerism of – who are ace with their production techniques that I love listening to.
Also…spoonerism, what a word. “
Your new single has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
“Feel Me was never intended to be a release, it started out as an entry into a Spinnin’ Records competition hosted by Breathe Carolina.
I’ve never entered one of these before but, we all have a lot of free time at the moment so thought why not.
Made the track and entered it not really expecting much, but then it received so much support that when the competition ended, it finished 2nd on their chart. We don’t know who’s won the competition yet as they’ve still got to check out all the submissions, but regardless I decided to release the track myself.
Demo after demo was made, with different versions being created each time until I finally settled on one. My team probably has 20 different versions of the song by now thanks to all the demo’s I sent them for opinions!”
.
.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
“I’d love to perform with Jared Leto, I just know we can make something huge (his tracks are always just huge).
Maybe a cheeky set in Ibiza with Tiesto would be nice too, and also some chilled vibes with Josh F featuring on the track.
There’s a load of people I want to work with but that’s all in the future plans.”
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
“I want to wake up and do this every day, live and breathe it. I define myself by my music, so the goal is for it to define me, to become my career, my love, my life.
I want to fill stadiums, vibe on boat parties, ah there’s so much I want to do with my music.
At one point, when the times are right, I plan to create my own clothing line too, ‘cuz I’m not gonna lie here, I have eccentric ideas for clothing. The idea is Venetian is so much more than just the music, it’s a code, it’s a way of life, and I want something that can be proudly worn to represent it.
I also totally need to pay my parents back for all the help they gave me when I was younger!”
.
.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
“Everyone has songs that are important to them, songs that mean something big. That’s what I love, I love that a song I make can create an emotion in someone, the same way it does for me.
Live audiences are no different, you can see it in their faces. Sometimes it’s euphoric freedom, other times it’s tears. Music is universal, it doesn’t matter when people are from, what language they speak, songs speak to people in a different way than just words and there’s nothing better than seeing how your music makes people feel.
Venetians’ a pretty new thing to me and with everything going on in the world, shows have been postponed for now, I’ve had some crazy experiences before in previous musical ventures like playing at house parties, supporting artists like McBusted in the foyer, playing on the stage at Birmingham Free Radio festival, but right now, it’s the amount of people who send me random little videos singing my tracks, it’s something small, but I’m happy that I can make someone else feel something.”
Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
FAVOURITE:
Album – You Me At Six – Hold Me Down
Artist – You Me At Six/30 Seconds To Marks (totally different to what I make, but they were my inspirations in my youth)
Movie – The Notebook (legit this one brings the feels)
Place to visit – Ibiza is always amazing, and I love Dubai
Venue to play – O2 Academies, they’re so intimate
Food – Told my friend this the other day and he didn’t have a clue, but I love Sharon fruits
Drink – Malibu alllll day
Person in History – Does Mr Mushiya my old history teacher count? I was so bad at paying attention but he was a character.
Tattoo – (If you don’t have one, what would you get?) Dying to get them started, but I want sleeves, chest and my neck done. For the sleeve it’s a rose stem that runs from my shoulder to my hand, with little images sprouting off it, bad memories in black and white, good memories in vivid colour.
