Amnplify Interviewer Brianna Denmeade got some time to chat with Vera below.

.

Hi Vera, how are you?

Good, thank you!

.

Where about are you at the moment?

I’m just at home in Sydney. I had some promo this morning and now I’m back at home.

.

You’ve been travelling a fair bit, promoting your new single ‘Lady Powers’. How has that been?

Yeah, it’s been really good, a little bit tiring but it’s really exciting.

.

You’ve recently just toured your latest album. How have the reactions to that been around the world?

Yeah! It’s been really nice. Especially Australia. Everyone has embraced it and connected it in their own way – that’s kinda why I made it so that people can make a story that was mine their own.

.

You have just announced your ‘Lady Powers’ remix EP. What was the purpose of releasing a remix EP and building a tour around it?

The tour is based on the single and then I’ll also be playing the songs for the record. With the remix EP, we thought it would be a really cool idea to reach out to a bunch of really incredible female producers around the world. We emailed the song around and these 5 girls have really vibed with the song and put their own personal spin and remixed it – they are all blowing my mind. So I’m really excited to release this EP.

.

That’s so cool that you have a whole EP based on one song with all female producers. You’ve obviously heard them all, tell me a little bit about them.

Yeah, I have heard them all and I really love them. I think the first one I heard was Maria’s and her remix of the bass line along with the added screams from vocal samples that she had was amazing. I’m really loving her as a producer at the moment as well, so that was exciting for me. They are all very unique in their own way, I love it.

.

I love Lady Powers on its own as a track and I got to see you perform it live in Brisbane with THANDI PHOENIX and it was amazing. What does Lady Powers mean to you?

Lady Powers is so many things. Lady Powers to me is your body, your dignity, your self-respect, your confidence and any type of those sort of things that create a strength inside of you – a thick skin. It’s also about the women you surround yourself with that pick you up and keep you inspired but mainly it is your own inner strength and being confident in your own skin and own ability.

.

Why did you decide to release the Kodie Shane remix of Lady Powers as a single before you released the EP?

This was not as much a remix, more like a single re-release. Lady Powers was released around this time last year as a part of the record and I wanted to release it as a single with an extra feminine touch to it. I realised I wanted a female rapper on the track and Kodie was so perfect for the song. Her vocal tone is so special and her sense of rhythm is really cool. It’s going to be on the EP as well.

.

Is the Lady Power theme going to follow the tour? Are you going to have a female support act?

Yeah definitely. We are about to announce the supports pretty soon and I am super excited about those – there’s a couple of really cool girls that will be joining. I am actually really excited because the tour won’t feel like I have support acts, it will feel like an all-female lineup which is really fun.

.

What does feminism mean to you as an artist and why is it something you are passionate about?

I’m not an incredibly political person and my experience in the industry and with life have been really positive but I think it’s important for women to respect themselves and know how to be respected. If you are being disrespected by someone, you need to know how to deal with it. I really believe in self-love, self-respect and dignity is a really big one for me. I think it is really important that us women unite and stick together and have each other’s backs rather than tear each other down.

.

Any plans for after the Lady Powers tour?

Yeah! I have Groovin’ the Moo and then we are going to head over and do some dates in the US and maybe the UK. So a lot more touring, but I am going to start working on some new music which I am really excited about.

.

It must have been a while since you’ve just taken some time out to create new music!
Yeah, it has been a little while so I am excited to start a new chapter.

.

Is it a different process when you’re writing in a studio compared to on tour?

They are just two completely separate things. I have friends that are artists and they can do both but I find it’s quite difficult to come off stage and then have to write. I might surprise myself sometimes though. I might feel inspired after a show one day or on a day off – so I’ll have to wait and see. It’s very different being overseas as well – you meet really cool people that inspire you.

.

Do you have a memorable moment from touring overseas?

Touring with Jacob in itself was really cool – just being on the bus and hanging out with all his crew was really fun. If we had a day off we would go and do karaoke or have a few drinks and let her hair down and then the next day would get back to work. We were around each other a lot so it was nice that we became like a little family.

.

Was there any inspiration taken from an artist that you think you will use in the near future?

I am listening to a lot of new artists and I love collaborating with other artists it’s just so much fun. I am really good friends with the Slumberjack boys and they are great to collab with. There’s also a few other Australian artists I would love to work with as well as artists overseas.

.

If you could collaborate with any artist that is no longer with us, who would it be?

Umm… maybe John Lennon.

.

Thank you so much for talking to me and I can’t wait to see you on tour.

Awesome, thank you so much.
