VOID OF VISION broke into Melbourne’s heavy music scene early 2013 and have been turning heads ever since. The release of their debut music video ‘Life//Blood’ launched the band straight into the touring scene, with them finishing the year 2014 with 3 national tours under their belt, with the likes of heavyweight Australian and International acts Hand Of Mercy, Hellions, Elegist, Villes (SNG) and The Sweet Apes.

The release of their debut EP ‘Broken//Bones’ (coined BLUNT Magazine’s EP of the Year) showcased and captured the band’s aggressive sound which has been leaving crowds all around the country left wanting more. Their UNFD debut, ‘Children Of Chrome’ was released in 2016 and immediately connected with the heavy music community, which enabled VOID OF VISION to take off on their first overseas jaunt (supporting Chelsea Grin throughout Europe/UK). Renowned for their incredible live show, VOID OF VISION have won over the hearts of heavy music fans all over and have continued that explosive momentum into 2018. They spent 2017 touring with I Prevail, Bodycount (Ice T), Northlane, Deez Nuts, and then finished off with their own headline tour. In November they dropped a surprise EP ‘Disturbia’, which has amassed over 700,000 streams on Spotify. They were the headlining Australian act on Invasion Fest and just played mainstage at Unify Festival in January. They are in Europe right now on a 5 week tour with Miss May I and then come back to a national tour with Story Of The Year.

Amnplify’s Josefin Stolt Westling caught up with the band recently and quizzed them on the trip so far.

How would you describe your journey in the music industry so far, and where do you want to go from here with your music?

James: I just want to keep sharing our music with people around the world! I think like any band we’ve had a few hiccups along the way, since we started touring so early in our band’s career, but we’ve definitely learned from it all.

Jack: Our journey and development has come along a lot quicker than I think we expected, we’ve learnt a lot and really I just want to continue doing that. It’s been an extremely rewarding process, every single second of it.

.

When did you know you wanted to make music, and perform as your career?

James: I’d sort of played in a few bands when I was a bit younger, but it wasn’t until we started coming together (as Void Of Vision) that I knew I wanted a career in music.

Jack: I knew I wanted to make music as soon as I owned my first guitar, but as for performing as a career, I’d have to say when VOV first started.

.

Who have been your musical influences or artists you have admired growing up?

James: Definitely Nirvana and Foo Fighters for me, basically a Dave Grohl fanboy.

Jack: The Offspring, Green Day, INXS & Goldfinger.

.

Are there any artists or musicians that you have been so impacted by that it changed your view on life or mentality toward music?

Jack: When I hear this question I just think more-so back to artists we’ve toured with. We’re lucky to have been a part of tours with some real road warriors/veterans of the industry and the opportunity to pick their brains has really put a lot of what we do in perspective and taught us so much.

.

How do you feel your sound has developed over your time releasing music?

James: I feel like we’ve basically just learned how to write songs better. Whether it’s the structure of it, or just what “sounds good”, we’ve definitely matured as songwriters, as cliché as that is to say.

.

What are your goals for 2018 as far as your music is concerned?

James: Tour lots and write another record!

Jack: Defnitely finish up record no. 2

.

What performance in your career so far has been the most memorable, or surreal and why?

James: UNIFY18 would be the most memorable for me, I was stressing the whole weekend that the rain was going to somehow ruin the festival, but I think it ended up making our set so much better! There were so many people watching us and so many people into the set, it was just the best experience.

Jack: I’m going to pick UNIFY18 as well. That whole experience was just insane, I’ve never finished a set so happy before and kept a buzz like that for as long after the set as I did.

.

If you weren’t working in the music industry, what else do you think you would be doing with your life right now?

James: I’m studying engineering part-time, so I’d probably be working as one by this point!

Jack: I would be right here. I’ve always wanted to be a part of the music industry, whether it be performing or working behind the scenes. I’d love to make that transition once band is all wrapped up in the future.

.

What’s one song fans might be surprised you really like?

James: I don’t mind a bit of Taylor Swift haha

Jack: Anything by Lana Del Ray

.

If you could choose only one muso, artist or band to collaborate with the rest of your career who would it be?

James: I think Max Martin would be interesting to work with, I wonder what he’d be able to do with metal music!

Jack: That is a tough one, but I’d probably have to say John Feldmann.

.

And, if you had to listen to one song on repeat the rest of your life what song and why?

James: Hard question! I’d have to say Higher Love by Steve Winwood, it always gets me in a good mood!

Jack: On Broadway by George Benson – always a party starter in the van.
