Wednesday 13 is a name that has been synonymous with horror-inspired rock for almost three decades. From his beginnings in North Carolina to leading Murderdolls alongside Slipknot’s Joey Jordison, and now with a long-running solo career, he has carved out his own place as one of shock rock’s most resilient and charismatic frontmen.

I sat down with Wednesday 13 to talk about his journey, his latest album Mid Death Crisis, and his upcoming Australian tour this November.

Where it all began

The name Wednesday 13 was born in the mid-90s, inspired by Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family, the unlucky number 13, and even The Munsters’ address at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. “That was the name I created for my character,” he explains. “And I’ve been doing it now for nearly 30 years.”

Growing up in a small town in North Carolina, Wednesday was a dreamer who found his calling in rock ‘n’ roll as a teenager. Initially aiming to be a guitarist, he ended up finding his true voice as a singer and has never looked back.

Murderdolls and beyond

The big break came in 2002 with the launch of Murderdolls, which instantly grabbed global attention due to Slipknot’s Joey Jordison being part of the lineup. Touring worldwide with Murderdolls at just 26 years old, Wednesday 13 found himself propelled into the spotlight.

When that chapter ended, Wednesday knew he wasn’t going back to a day job. In 2005, he launched his solo career, releasing his debut on Roadrunner Records. Twenty years later, Wednesday 13 has released ten solo albums, countless EPs, and continues to steer his own ship.

“The whole point of my solo band was that the name and the music would always continue as long as I was here,” he says. “I’ve had over 20 members in the band across the years, but I’m still the captain of the ship.”

The new album – Mid Death Crisis

Released earlier this year, Mid Death Crisis marks a creative high point for Wednesday. “It’s the most fun I’ve had making a record in a long time,” he says. “From writing to recording, everything just clicked. For the first time, I love every single track on the album.”

Fans can dive into singles like In Misery—one of his favourites to play live. The record is both a nod to his roots and a fresh injection of energy into his already legendary catalogue.

Touring Australia in November

Wednesday 13 is bringing his horror rock spectacle back to Australia this November, joined by Australia’s own Kim Dracula. “He brings in a younger audience, and I bring in my crowd, so together it’s going to be amazing. Everyone’s going to leave happy.”

Expect a career-spanning setlist that celebrates over 20 years of Wednesday 13, along with Murderdolls classics woven in for good measure.

Influences and advice

Citing Kiss, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, and W.A.S.P. as major influences, Wednesday proudly wears his glam-shock heritage on his sleeve. His ultimate dream gig? Sharing the stage with Kiss in the 70s at the height of their revolutionary theatrical era.

For younger artists, his advice is grounded in lived experience: “It’s not an easy road. Rock ‘n’ roll has been cruel and kind, but you’ve got to be a lifer. You’ve got to believe in it, work hard, and know you’ll sacrifice things along the way. If you’re good to rock ‘n’ roll, it will be good to you.”

Horror, resilience, and Alice Cooper

Away from the stage, Wednesday’s passion for horror films—especially Texas Chainsaw Massacre—has shaped his persona and even inspired tattoos. Optimism, drive, and persistence are qualities he credits with keeping him going after so many years: “I’m like the Terminator—you just can’t get rid of me.”

Alice Cooper remains his ultimate inspiration and mentor. “He’s the godfather of shock rock, and I’ve been lucky enough to tour with him and even have him on one of my records. He didn’t let me down when I met him, and that made all the difference.”

Looking ahead

With Mid Death Crisis lighting up his discography and a tour that promises to thrill fans both old and new, Wednesday 13 shows no signs of slowing down. His love for the music and his unrelenting drive have made him one of the genre’s most enduring figures.

“I love what I’m doing,” he says. “I’ve been very fortunate and it’s been a fun ride. And it’s not stopping anytime soon.”
