Have you always wanted to be an artist? When did you get the song writing bug?
I was lucky enough to have a life changing moment when we were forced to take music class in year 9. We were learning how to pluck strings on a guitar and I noticed my best mate (unnamed) pick his nose and wipe it under his chair. That’s when I released I have the innate skill to humiliate people publicly with an improvised song. I had the whole class in stitches at my first hit ‘Jay put a booger under his chair’ (Unreleased)

Briefly describe your journey to date.
I started off obsessed with pop punk like Green Day and Blink 182. Being an immigrant from Bulgaria without a musical family, I hadn’t even heard of Led Zeppelin or Floyd or Jimi Hendrix until after I learned guitar. But my sister Ivana playing a couple of instruments before me and she showed me some things. I was producing right from the get go. I played in my own bands and played and produced my sisters music. Many years later I expanded to produce other bands, forgetting about my own music for a while until just recently when I realised that If I didm’t start focussing on my own creativity it’ll never happen.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
Brit rock, psychedelic, infectious pop as they say.
I think fans resonate with how authentic the emotion in it is. I pour my soul into every word.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
The really obvious one is Tame Impala. It’s no secret I’m his biggest fan, but I will say the recent Slow rush tour show was one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever seen. The complete immersion of sound, lights and a feeling.

Your latest single ‘Don’t Wake Me’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
Don’t wake me could be interpreted as a song about abandonment and longing but really, it was just me trying to get a girl’s attention. Which ironically, could be why I picked up a guitar in the first place. Fifteen years later it seems I’m still doing the same thing. I thought is would be funny to write an ode to her even though it was too premature in our relationship to justify, hoping is could break down walls. I had just come back from a Europe trip with all this inspiration and I couldn’t contain it.
The verse tells the story of understanding the emotional distance. The chorus yearns for more, relating the sensation between us to chemical rushes. The second verse moves to explore the bitterness and resentment of reality.

Is there an EP or an Album on the drawing board?
Yes, All the songs so far will be part of an album or songs centred around the concept of longing for love. I haven’t promoted that because I’m not sure if it’ll be the end of this year or early next.

You have some NSW events coming up in June? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Yes, We’ve just done a raucous one in Newcastle, I’m doing a solo setup in Dubbo this Tuesday. And then hometown Sydney on  this Friday 14th June. Fans can expect to have their cups filled. To purge themselves of a heavy heart. Feel lighter.

Are there any other events or tours in the horizon?
Yes Wollongong on the 21st June then not for a while.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
I think being backed by Dave Grohl on the Drums wouldn’t be a bad time.

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
My dream is to get far enough to promote myself as a songwriter. Then settle down on a farm property where my spaceship shaped studio is built on the side of a mountain with 270 degree view over the vally. Artists from all over the world come for a spiritual experience and come away with ground shaking songs.
I think I’m on the way. I have all those things in a less crystallised form. The studio is starting to look like a space ship, and I’m getting my name out there more and more.

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
Patience is the key to anything. As long as you treat everything as a learning experience nothing is ever a waste of time.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Connecting to people. Even when you close your eyes you can still feel when someone is right there with you. You hold each other in a higher plane.

Here are three general questions your fans will find interesting about you:
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Ayahuasca with a Peruvian shaman

What is the one topic you can talk about for hours?
Music production, nerdy plugins and gear.
