Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the songwriting bug?
Yes, I’m one of these kids that started piano at 6 years and always sticked with improvisation of melodies which then got me to songwriting. It was a natural evolution for me and the feeling that you can express yourself truly and honestly through music on another level will always be the most awesome thing for me.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
My music is looking back at what’s been done and I contribute with my take on it, especially music from 90s.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
The Police, Yes, Semisonic, Train, New Radicals, Alanis Morrissette, Beck, great songwriting music.
Your new single 25-28 has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
I wanted to capture the sound of a summer. And somehow, the 90s kinda guitar line conveyed that exact feeling for me. I left off all unnecessary harmonies, instrumentation: I knew I wanted it to be quiet minimalistic, light and fresh yet kinda dry. I also love to write songs without a bridge; I somehow always stumble right into the chorus. 25-28 is one of these songs that you write in one go because it all flows naturally to the rhythm, which gives it a nice free and loose vibe.
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board? Can you tell us more about it?
Yes, I’ve worked on it for a year and I think we have now all the parts coming together.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
King Of Convenience. I love their sense of melodies and harmonies. I would love to be a part of their magic for a song.

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist?
Just being able to release music I care deeply about and developing my craft, songwriting and live.
With covid19, concerts and festivals have been cancelled. What do you miss the most about performing to a live audience?
Seeing directly what song connects in which way with an audience.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
I’m starting off, so my highlight is to be able to release something that I’ve worked on for quite a while and finally seeing the reactions. Two years ago, I sang in front of 30.000 people on a festival in Brazil when I was touring with a DJ, that felt incredibly unusual yet incredibly real at the same time.

Belgian artist and songwriter
YVES PAQUET
releases new single and video
“25-28”
Belgian artist and songwriter Yves Paquet returns with a whole new sound and the release of his new single “25-28” on July 16th, along with a distinct music video. The song was produced by London-based producer Ant Whiting (MIA, John Newman, Ella Eyre, Becky Hill, and more recently Blanche).
Yves Paquet has kept a low profile since unleashing his German infused hit “UFO” with The Subs late 2018. He’s been experimenting with new soundscapes since, listening to 80s-90s music (The Police, Genesis, Semisonic, New Radicals …) and finding his own artistic identity.
“I had to hold still for a moment and really feel what kind of music I wanted to write” the Brazil-born artist says. “I went back to the albums that I’ve heard in my father’s room and mixed those sounds with my love for pop music.”
“25-28” is the first new music by Yves Paquet in 2020 and marks the introduction to his own unique sound, over a year in the making: an organic sound inspired by, but at the same time reinventing, 90s alternative pop.
“She wasn’t ready for the love that I gave”, Yves croons on “25-28” over Ant Whiting’s airy production. Regarding the lyrics, he explains: “I grew up in a village on the countryside, like many villages in Belgium. The song is kind of a Mrs. Robinson story about how (mostly) your first summer fling in your small home town or village isn’t the big love of your life. It’s not the end of the world but at that time it feels like that. I wanted to capture the sound of a summer in my youth.”
“25-28” is a bonafide summer song with hooks aplenty.
The video, directed by French visual artist and motion designer Jules Guérin, sets Yves in a dreamy summer vibes aesthetic, traveling through landscapes of colors, shapes and textures.
