Harrison Storm is a singer/songwriter based in Melbourne.
Harrison is greatly influenced by his childhood, where he grew up by the beautiful beaches of the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. Exposed to music from a young age through his mother’s guitar playing and father’s poetry, Harrison began creating his own music inspired by his parents’ record collection.

Has music always been an important part of your life? When did making music become a more serious concern for you?
I grew up with my mums guitar laying around the house as a kid, she’d write and sing for us children when we were younger. There was definitely a natural progression from being interested in the songs she was writing, to writing my own. It probably wasn’t until I was 19/20 when I really found meaning in making my own music and sharing that with people around me. From then on it became a serious passion!

What kind of music did you grow up on? What artists inspired you and which do you still look to now for ideas?
My mum used to play a lot of The Beatles and The Eagles on her guitar. So that was always around. My Dad was right into Neil young and Bob Dylan. Those sort of artists laid the foundation of what I was into. Guitar, voice and lyrics was my inspiration. That lead to a curiosity into more contemporary artists like Jeff Buckley, Angus Stone and Ben Howard !

You have just released an emotive new track, ‘RUN.’ Can you share the origins of or inspiration behind the song?
I’ve been playing around with a loop pedal for writing the past year or so and that main riff came out of a session I had in my lounge at home. I took that riff along with some melody and lyrics I had, over to Nick Atkinson and Edd Holloway just north of London where we finished off the track. The song is a story of resilience and of taking a leap into the unknown with someone close by your side.

You will be touring with Ziggy Alberts in April and May. How did that tour come about?
Yes and I can’t wait ! I supported Ziggy on his first North American tour at the end of 2018 and it was a real pleasure being on the road with him and his crew. They are all incredibly passionate and interesting people. I am lucky to get to jump on the Europe and UK leg of his tour promoting his new album.

Can you share any moments from the past year in your career that you are truly proud of or that were particularly inspiring?
Touring Australia at the start of this year with Porch Sessions was definitely a highlight for me. The whole concept of backyard gigs is something I find so special. The way people interact with each other and connect with the music when the environment and atmosphere are catered towards that type of show, every night becomes memorable. And to tour alongside my good friends Alana Wilkinson and Jack the Fox made it even better.

What do you love most about being on tour? Is there anything that is not so great?
The hardest part is the early rises and the lack of sleep. But they’re things that aren’t worth complaining about when you get to travel to all these new and exciting places and meet wonderful people. Touring is a really really special thing.

Who are your major music inspirations?
I always turn to Ben Howard and Jeff Buckley when I’m low on the inspiration juice. They always seem to remind me why I love making music in the first place.

If you could tour or perform with anyone, Dead or Alive, whom would you choose? And why?
I think touring with City And Colour would be incredible. I’m such a fan of his music and I’d kill to see it live night after night.

What are your plans for the coming year?
I’ve got a bunch of new music coming out and some local and overseas touring in the pipeline. Will be trying to write as much as possible too.

Do you have any longer-term goals or aspirations?
I guess just being able to do this for as long as I can. To connect with people with my music is something I hope for with every song I release or show I play.

If someone had never listened to Harrison Storm before, what song of yours would you recommend to them if they could only listen to one?
One of my favourite songs of mine is a track called ‘Dreams’.

Are there any further dates coming up in the near future? Any major touring plans on the drawing board?
I’m about to kick off a 5 day national touring supporting Gregory Alan Isakov which i’m really excited about.

Finally, this is a paragraph dedicated to some quick discovery. Really corny, but for the fans, can you tell me your favorite album, artist, movie, place, drink, meal and person (living or dead) and some brief reasons why? Answer some or all please?
