On a sweltering Wednesday evening in Adelaide, the lines stretched from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and down the footpath along Port Road. The anticipation was palpable as fans eagerly lined up for what was sure to be an unforgettable night of metal as we witness two powerhouses of the genre: nu-metal kings, KORN, and supporting band LOATHE. Kicking off their Australian visit for GOOD THINGS festival, this gig is to be KORN’s one and only sideshow performance and has, understandably, bought a sold out crowd.

LOATHE – an experimental metal band hailing from Liverpool UK – opened the show with a bang and they immediately set the tone for the night. The band, known for their genre-blending sound, wasted no time in getting the crowd moving as lead vocalist Kadeem France called for a circle pit by way of introduction. The eager crowd complied, thrashing about as the heavy, atmospheric riffs reverberated through the venue. As the band launched into Dance On My Skin, the intensity only grew, with the crowd headbanging and dancing with reckless abandon, feeding off the energy of the band.
One of the highlights of LOATHE’s set was a cinematic interlude, where the soundscape shifted to something hauntingly atmospheric, giving a brief respite from the chaos before they amped the energy back up again. As the band moved into Two-Way Mirror, the crowd began swaying and raising their hands in unison to the beat. The moment felt almost transcendent, a shared experience between the band and audience.

Before wrapping up, France raised the excitement even further, getting the crowd to “make some noise for KORN,” which was met with a roar and devil horns raised in the air. LOATHE’s set was a masterclass in tension and release, blending melodic elements with heavy, crushing breakdowns, leaving the audience primed for the next act.
The lights dimmed, the stage was set for KORN, and what followed was nothing short of electric. Known for their raw intensity and iconic presence, the band wasted no time in drawing the crowd into their world and launching into Here To Stay. Every single member brought the energy, but it was frontman Jonathan Davis who commanded the crowd in his custom red Adidas tracksuit. The crowd’s response was deafening during the singalong to Dead Bodies Everywhere, as fans yelled in unison with an enthusiasm that could rival the band’s historic performances from 1999.
The infamous mic stand, a staple of Davis’ performances, stood gleaming at the center of the stage as the band energetically thrashed about the stage. The chemistry was evident, and the crowd was treated to Davis’ signature scatting and the frantic guitar work of Head & Munky that has defined Korn’s sound for the past 30 years.

The energy reached fever pitch as bassist Ra Diaz jumped about and drummer Ray Luzier flourished his drumsticks to the beat of A.D.I.D.A.S: intense and relentless. There was a feeling of camaraderie as everyone seemed to move as one, lost in the music.
Davis announces they’re going to play something that hadn’t played “in a long ass time” before launching into Hey Daddy, the crowd reacting to the rare gem with an explosive cheer. Good God echoed through the arena, and the crowd followed with their own chaotic yet jubilant energy.
We are gifted a varying setlist tonight as well as tone switches from the band; after Clown, Davis takes a moment to play the bagpipes before changing gears again into Twist. The tantalising set is rounded out with Y’All Want a Single before the band leaves the stage and the crowd begins chanting “encore” in earnest.

KORN return to the deafening roar of the sold out crowd for a three song encore and the audience thrash together through Falling Away From Me and Oildale. Streamers fall from the sky as the band launch into the unforgettable Freak On a Leash and we all come together in a collective joyous frenzy.
From the pounding rhythms to the soaring, high-pitched notes that Davis hit effortlessly, KORN brought their A-game. The show was a whirlwind of sound, emotion, and intensity, reminding everyone why they’ve remained at the forefront of metal for over 30 years.
As the night wound to a close, the crowd was left breathless, knowing they had witnessed a performance that would be hard to top. KORN and LOATHE may have come from different corners of the metal world, but together they forged an unforgettable experience that left fans craving more. There are GOOD THINGS ahead for them both.
