Kyle Maher is an artist that you need to look out for. He is an artist who is raw and passionate, and his music is hard-hitting and heartfelt.

Kyle Maher started 2019 strong releasing his first single ‘Serenity’ which went on to be featured in an episode of Netflix original series Terrace House: Tokyo, developing a dedicated fanbase from the many viewers of the program. Kyle also played shows constantly around his home town of Darwin, the height was playing at BASSINTHEGRASS 2019 alongside Hilltop Hoods, Amy Shark and Mallrat.

This relative success all happened throughout a time where a long-term relationship ended and Kyle suffered serious trauma. After crashing his ex-girlfriend’s car and moving out from living with her, Kyle wound up in hospital needing eye surgery after his new housemate assaulted him.

During his 7 day recovery in hospital, Kyle was visited by his ex-girlfriend. Kyle, seeing her compassion in context of the trouble he’d caused, was humbled and inspired. She deserved better. Healing in the wake of concurrent ups and downs, Kyle had time to integrate his many lessons.

This incident inspired his new track ‘Better’, where he collaborated with German producer Ouhboy, who most notably worked on Tyga’s track ‘Sketchers’. This collaboration shows Kyle continuing to explore more in-depth in his lyricism, which is his main point of his self-expression. This exploration shows Kyle adventuring into the style of rap which has turned into a medium for vocalising his experiences and the lessons learnt.

‘Better’ begins with an hispanic trickling melodic flute and guitar riff, that is soon joined with a deep and smooth bass riff that adds extra texture to the song. The track displays his adventure into rap, mixing it with his loveable vocals, creating a pop heartbreak masterpiece. The switch between the two styles shows new areas of expression as well as connecting to a wider audience. It is heart-wrenching but also a track to bop along to at the club, it shows him merging another style into his own, creating a new sound for him to play around with. ‘Better’ shows him maturing as an artist and finding new ways to craft his thoughts and emotions.

‘Better’ floats like a cherry blossom and hits both the head and the heart like a kendo combo. Kyle Maher will win you heart over with his new track. It is a track that shows growth and maturity not only as a person but also as an artist.
