As for the fans that gathered at Sydney’s Factory Theatre, they were given a night to remember.
The four piece Sydney band Sports Bra were the first act of the night. Empowering the crowd ready for a night full of pure Australian music. The pop punk band brought every joy they had to the stage and with it, their latest album ‘Little Beast’. Lead singer Naif Jamie provided the crowd with a warm and uplifting vibe through Sports Bra’s songs combining passion and wellbeing. Personally, I can’t say I’ve ever heard a band as alternative as this one, but when playing songs about trouble leaving the house I believe they had me, and majority of the fans compelled. As any support band should, the four Australian self titled “Queer Pop Dreamboats” announced their excitement and appreciation for the main act, La Dispute.

Second on the menu was the pink shirt wearing emo-pop group, Rachael Maria Cox. Uplifting vibes and crowd engaging stories were immediately thrown into the night and transformed into some of the most intimate songs I’ve ever heard from a local band. RMC opened with a song named ‘Stronger Lines’, from their 2017 album ‘Untidy Lines’. Sure enough it was more than they needed to open up to the people of Sydney. Relating back to their own affiliations, lead singer RMC announced that few of their tracks are about emotional experiences such as eating disorders and old partners. This was a huge step towards comfortability as it showed everyone just who they were and that they weren’t afraid to show it. Nearing the end of their set, lead singer RMC progressed to perform a solo acoustic act for us. Not sure of how it would result, everyone engaged deeply and emotionally as they performed ‘Misery Kink’, as It seemed it was another story about their past experiences. They certainly did not disappoint as an emo-pop band.

Last but not least, after four long years, the main act La Dispute emerged from the curtains to perform on one of our Australian stages once again. The American post- hardcore band from Michigan opened up our hearts with a track named ‘New storms for old lovers’ from their now remastered album ‘Somewhere at the bottom of the river between Vega and Altair’. Their intentions were clear, and so was their sound. Lead vocalist Jordan Dreyer took hold of the night with all of his empowering lyrics. In case you hadn’t heard, this show was sold out within a small matter of time. This show was their third in a weeks period, previously performing at Good Things Festival in Sydney and Melbourne, only to rock out again at the Brisbane show days later.

Corey Stroffolino (Guitarist) once stated, “Jordan is tasked with representing five very different people’s hearts and passion. Can’t think of anyone who could do it more admirably and with such a unique lens.” This is more than accurate. Jordan and the rest of the band by his side delivered deep, emotional music. At the same time a hyperactive stage presence that literally brought the fans to them through crowd surfing and spiritual engagement. The last time the band were in Australia they played in an abandoned house using nothing but a generator to power their equipment, how’s that for a show!? Towards the end of the night, happily enough La Dispute performed a notorious track named ‘King Park’, bringing a majority of fans to sing along and really give the Factory Theatre a night to remember. It’s hard to explain what they are like to see live, so you’ll just have to wait and see them in 2019 when they come back after the release of their new album ‘Panorama’.
