Lil Xan AKA Diego Leanos originally had his heart set on being a photographer, but when his camera was stolen one night he decided to hop in the booth and thats how Lil Xan started his rap career. Skyrocketing to fame with his single Betrayed, Lil Xan has used his fame to promote an anti-xanax movement, and has always been extremely open about his former addiction. In Australia for Splendour In The Grass and a string of sideshows, I had the pleasure of attending his first ever Australian show.
.
Due to the unfortunate weather conditions Triple One were unable to make it to Melbourne, but at 8:00pm on the dot DJ Slick P took to the stage to take their place and warm the crowd up.
Kicking his set off with Been Bout It, he keeps the high energy rolling with Who Are You and Xanarchy, the mosh pit going crazy the entire time. It is so cool to see a crowd of all ages, all genders, all dancing like no one is watching and just enjoying the moment.
Paying tribute to the recently passed XXXTENTACION, Diego covers a few of the rappers most popular songs before performing his own The Man with fellow Xararchy Gang member $teven Cannon.
Color Blind is by far one of Xans’ most notable songs to date, and a crowd favourite – which was quite hard to tell considering how wild the mosh was the entire night.
Followed with one of his new tracks from his EP Heartbreak Soldiers, Honesty afterwards taking a moment to express how hard all the recent tragic deaths of musicians hit him, Diego performs a cover of Awful Things in tribute to Lil Peep.

Saving the best for last Diego has the whole crowd wildin’ for Slingshot and Lies. Telling us how he’d never thought he would ever make it to Australia as he throws skittles in to the mosh. As the intro of Betrayed booms the speakers the crowd erupts in screams for the song they’d all been waiting for. Teasing us with the lyric “heart shaped kisses, I really miss my mistress” we’re lucky enough for Xan to perform Betrayed twice.
Thanking the crowd and promising he’ll be back, its obvious the crowd isn’t done yet, chanting screams for an encore – Diego returns for one last song, asking us what we wanna hear before finally closing the night with one last performance of Slingshot.
It’s easy to believe all the negative publicity about Lil Xan, but seeing him up on stage a smile beaming on his face it’s easy to see he’s all about spreading positivity. Dealing with anxiety and depression it’s amazing to see him up on stage living his best life and using the voice his fame has given him to promote his anti-xanax movement.
