Glowy summery beats and lustrous pop licks emanate from new artist Liss’ debut single “Heartbreaker”. The catchy and empowering song exudes a youthful vibe as the singer sings of the desire to avoid getting her heart broken.
Liss is relatively new to the scene, hailing from Melbourne the artist began exploring her love of music at age 9 when she began writing her own songs. From there Liss continued to develop her skills and by the time she got to uni had fully committed herself to study music. The 2020 lockdown gave Liss the time and space to put down the groundwork for Heartbreaker and a year later she team up with producer Bhauraw to give it the polish and finesse that we hear in this first single.

Immediately off the bat, Heartbreaker’s bittersweet tone is shaped by a fleshy pop-synth beat and melody that is upbeat and very dance-worthy in that polished away that was dominated by the likes of DJ Snake and Major Lazer. The song describes the heartbreak and foolishness felt by Liss and her wariness to allow herself to become vulnerable to anyone else. “I’m not stupid, you should know but I think that you’ll have to go. Heartbreaker, don’t break my heart again” in essence, the song is, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on you. The bass in the song is punchy which grounds the other elements like the claps and airy synth loops that pepper the song. “Heartbreaker” is a song that cracks a brisk pace and shows much potential for an artist who is just at the start of her journey.
This is the type of song that is meant to be sung with your girlfriends, the themes in “Heartbreaker” are universal and Liss’ ability to merge those painful feelings with a sense of awareness allows “Heartbreaker” to break free with a feeling of liberation. With the very beautiful “Heartbreaker”, we welcome Liss and wait in anticipation to hear how her sound and voice evolve as she releases new music.
