MCP is a Sydney based 3-piece progressive-electronic group. Who are the members? You’ll never know.
From dark studios and lounge rooms comes new single “Vantablack” from Sydney three-piece outfit MCP. “Vantablack” is one of the darkest artificial materials on Earth, devouring all light that hits it, and this single is just as absorbing.
MCP is a relatively new group made up of members from Demons 2 Diamonds and Superb Lyrebird but who exactly they are, remains an elusive mystery. However whilst they might be shy about their identities they are quite happy to talk about the inspiration for MCP.

“We approach these songs and our musical influences more so through movies and video games of the Mid-Late ’80s and early ’90s rather than actual band influences. Movies such as ‘The Last Star Fighter’,’ Flight of the Navigator’, Willow and John Carpenters ‘Big Trouble in Little China’.”
“Vantablack” is a lusciously sonic journey through space which embraces all the customary aspects of synth-wave and progressive-electronic. More than journey music the intense production facilitates the listener into a world of exploration which too is a motivation for video game composers. Starting with a solid synth presence the song punches through the atmosphere at the 1.45-minute mark blasting us into hyperspeed with a driving melody and assertive drums.
The production is super clean showing some fine choices in creating a tempo through the song whilst also providing the light and shade needed for an extensive track. At over 6 minutes you hardly notice the length because you get lost in the layers of the track as it lulls you into a flow state.

“Vantablack” could sit nicely beside a playlist featuring Vangelis and Jean-Michel Jarre, fueling your late-night predilections whether that be putting on your headphones to escape reality or plugging in to game all night. MCP wanted to create the atmosphere of bunkering down, eating cheese pizza and playing arcade games through the night, and they’ve pretty much achieved that and then some.
And of course, a song like “Vantablack” needs its own music video, which happens to be premiering on Friday 28th August 2020 so make sure to check out. Otherwise, if you can’t wait till then “Vantablack” is available on Spotify and Bandcamp.
