Music and Community: two words etched deeply into the heart of 18-year-old Nadia Phillips, the singer-songwriter from Castlemaine. “I love how music feels when experienced with others. I was always intrigued by the arthouse atmosphere of my town’s Theatre Royal,” said Nadia. “I became a frequent face at world music gigs at the venue from a very young age. Seeing the way that music brought people together really fuelled me to start songwriting in my early teens.” Nadia dreams of selling out the same Theatre Royal stage that birthed her passion for music and community and headlining her own show that creates the togetherness she felt in that space in her formative years, and these dreams might become reality soon with the release of her debut single ‘On Reflection’.
Taking inspiration from Dido, early Radiohead, and Sgt. Pepper-era Beatles, Nadia began to construct eclectic folk demos in her home studio. Her emotive lyrics, brooding guitar, and undeniably catchy refrains underpin this exploration of the tender and painful realities of youth.

‘On Reflection’ was created by a team of talented people such as John Phillips and Ben Todd. They helped Nadia bring this song to life and helped her find her thought-provoking Indie folk-rock sound. The tracks if filled with wholesome vocals, uplifting chorus, and driving drum lines which gives this track that extra touch needed when coming out with your debut song.
The track begins with a deep and sombre toned melody played on the guitar. It gives the track a brooding sound, the is joined by Nadia’s voice that paints a scene of regret and sorrow. It is a song that is striking and mature, it delves into the feelings of troubled love and creates an intense feeling of heartbreak. This song grabs you and swirls you around in unleashed emotions; it is open, raw, and unapologetic.
Nadia has managed to create a striking debut track that will set her on the path towards her dream of playing at Theatre Royal. This is a song that will be stuck in your head for days on end, and it is a beautiful song to encapsulate troubled love and youth.
‘On Reflection’ is out now!
