Naked Face are an indie pop band hailing from Melbourne. They released their debut single “Beach Punk” in August of 2020, and it was embraced by music lovers worldwide. The song even spent 2 weeks at Number One on Triple J’s Unearthed Punk, Rock, and Indie chart.

Now that the guys have developed a strong growing fan base, they are set to release their second single “Coming Home” and fans will not be disappointed with this killer song. A very different song to “Beach Punk” really showcasing the variety in the band’s vocals and sound.

The sound of the song is very much like The Whitlams, in particular the song “No Aphrodisiac”.

Vocalist Steve Slik says of the song “‘Coming Home is a song about the human emotions involved in a toxic relationship. The person is constantly looking back in retrospect, trapped in the past and trying to make sense of it all’.

And based on Slik’s description, it is no surprise that it feels like the song takes you on a journey weaving in and out of different sounds and tempos as it travels along. This can be what your emotions are like in that toxic relationship. The constant ups and downs of the emotional roller-coaster ride.

The song starts off slow in tempo, quiet and melancholy, with a keyboard. When the vocals start it is a soft vocal for the verse. There is a minimalistic sound of instruments with the distinct sound of just cymbals from the drums. For the chorus, the tempo picks up ever so slightly with further instruments and backing vocals repeating words within the chorus which adds a nice layer to the sound.

A really pleasant surprise is at the 2 minute 20 second mark in the song. It kicks into a faster tempo heavier rock sound. After this rock piece, the song glides back effortlessly to the original pace of the chorus and repeats the lyrics “Oh here she comes” as the song fades out.

Naked Face is certainly going to grow their fan base with their new single “Coming Home”. It is a cracker of a song with a really amazing sound. This is one not to miss.
