of her new EP
MILK

Hey I’m Natalie Shay! and this is me talking about my latest EP ‘MILK’.
.
.
The EP itself follows the theme of growing up and self discovery. Every track was written during the pandemic and finished off in 2021. Within that time I felt I learned so much about myself, matured and grew as a person. Finally having the time away from playing live to really think for the first time, and also I learned about gratitude and what is really important in life.

New Wave
This was the second single from the EP. a song about a new beginning, one of the lighter topics lyrically from this ep. Written with my long time friend and collaborator Kaity Rae, we wrote this track about a new romance, but with the underlying sadness and uncertainty of things not working out.
Medicine Boy
This track is a synthy track comparing an addictive toxic relationship to that of drug addiction. when a relationship is bad for you, and you know you should leave, but you’re addicted to the cycle of deciding this but staying, because the short term highs and fixes of the relationship keep you tied in.

Outgrow
I wrote this song with Sfven, shortly after my childhood pet, a cat called Missy, died during the pandemic at 10 years old. Shortly after I adopted a new kitten, and had a realisation that the death of Missy, was kind of like a part of my childhood finally ending and me letting go. But the love I felt for my new cat Poppy, as the first pet we’d adopted since being an adult, I realised the importance of pets and the comfort and love we share with them being so deep rooted inside of us. so this is basically just a little song about loving my cat and not wanting her to die.
Good Girl Behaviour
The sassy track. An upbeat 80s inspired pop track focusing around people (older men in particular) that think they can buy you, or schmooze their way into using you. I wrote this one after realising how in control i am of myself and my own decisions. I’ve been in this industry for over 10 years and I’ve had a lot of problems like this, unfortunately especially when i was under 18. this track is my closure on that.

Two Sparks
A ballad about a long term relationship flatlining. When you realise the romance has died but you still share deep love and connection with each other. the relationship has ended but you can’t leave because you still feel like you need each other and can’t imagine a life without them.
Heaven
The EP focus track. An entire piece about growing up and reflecting. Each stanza is a different thing I learned about myself in 2020. a song sung to someone younger or my younger self, about what I’ve learned about life and love and loss and living well.
