Neon Tetra are a 4-piece band hailing from Adelaide in Australia. They have a sound that can be described as having a mix of Pop, Funk, Soul and Motown.
This sound is evident with their brand-new single “Bite The Bullet”. It is a cool and funky track that makes you start grooving immediately with the beat.
The song starts off with an upbeat tempo with a strong emphasis on the sound of the saxophone. It is an intro which immediately gets you moving in time with the beat and wanting to slide on your best pair of funky shades.
After the intro, the song then glides into the smooth velvety vocals providing the listener with chill vibes. The first line in the song being “cruising with the top down rolling to the setting sun”, sets the scene for cruisy worry-free times.
Bill Meegan, who features on vocals, has said of the new single “Bite The Bullet is an anthem of self-empowerment, encouraging people to be true to themselves in the face of adversity. We all deal with insecurity in some form and it’s important to remind ourselves to not get caught up in it”.
And the chorus really drives home that sentiment with the lyrics “bite the bullet, rattle the cage, steal the thunder, feed the flame….bite the bullet, rattle the cage, roll the dice, you gotta turn the page”. The aphorisms in the chorus alone give the listener strong positive affirmations that they can adopt this song and lyrics as their own mantra.

The second verse is fueled with more positivity with its lyrics that we can all relate to; that we either want to hear from someone or have been told by someone. The lines “Mumma always told me be yourself and you’ll go far, you’re headed for the top, don’t ever stop chasing the stars”. Mixing these lyrics with a really groovy beat, it makes for one of the most positive hip songs that you want to learn the lyrics to, sing along to, and literally make it your anthem to take into the new year!
The song continues with driving home empowering and positive statements. It picks up in beat ever so slightly and they really drive home the verse with some lyrics hitting the high notes. Towards the end a guitar solo is thrown in and after the vocals are done the instruments are featured without alone to drive home the cool funky rhythms that were featured at the start of the song.
“Bite The Bullet” is the third single from Neon Tetra from their upcoming EP “Sweatin’ Up A Storm”. If the music we have heard so far from this new album is anything to go by, we can certainly be guaranteed of hearing more positive and uplifting vibes from the Neon Tetra crew.

“Bite The Bullet”
Adelaide’s Neon Tetra come to you with ‘Bite the Bullet’, an empowering and bombastic single from their forthcoming EP ‘Sweatin’ Up A Storm’. Harmonising deep groove, gritty rock and sultry saxophone ‘Bite the Bullet’ synthesizes everything Neon Tetra in perfect balance. Neon Tetra brings you energy, passion and power with this latest offering – this is a band who has just kept going from strength to strength.
‘Bite the Bullet’ came to fruition during sessions spent writing and recording at Supermelody Studios in Kerrie, Victoria, working with noted producer and engineer James Cecil (Architecture in Helsinki, Totally Mild). As a follow up to first two singles ‘Jealous Love’ & ‘Heartbeat’, this release demonstrates the versatility and creativity of the upcoming record.
Neon Tetra have been hitting the ground running since their debut single ‘Reflections’ first put them on radars back in 2017. Becoming one of South Australia’s most popular young bands in the years that would follow, Neon Tetra were able to cut their teeth on growing stages, supporting the likes of Boy & Bear, Robbie Williams, Ball Park Music, Foreigner and Vera Blue. Releasing their debut EP Pollen in 2018 drew even more attention to Neon Tetra; their single ‘The End Begins Again’ surpassing 60k Spotify streams and ‘So Far From Me’ charting impressively on AMRAP’s metropolitan and regional charts for three consecutive weeks. 2020 has seen two singles from Neon Tetra’s upcoming EP already, ‘Jealous Love’ & ‘Heartbeat’, both performing well on streaming platforms and ‘Heartbeat’ peaking out at #1 on AMRAP’s metro charts and charting for 3 consecutive weeks.

Of all the tracks on our upcoming EP, Bite The Bullet hits at the centre of what we do. The track is an even mix of our disco, R&B and rock influences, where we would tend to sway more towards one on an individual song.
