Putting on a show for the second night in a row for their Brisbane fans, Northlane defiantly with support from Void of Vision, Silent Planet and Counterparts. Void of Vision are an Australian metalcore band from Melbourne. The band recently released their second album Hyperdaze which has secured the bands sound. Void of Vision’s set was full of energy. The sound mix was absolutely amazing in every element. The band put on an amazing set and was the perfect way to start the night.

Silent Planet is an American Christian metalcore band from Azusa, California. The band is currently signed to Solid State Records. To date they band have recorded two EPs and three full length albums. Silent Planet’s set featured a high range of vocals. The band brought so much energy to the stage and were awesome to see.
A highlight of the set was the last song which they expressed as being a song about mental health and you can hear the raw emotion that they had in this song.

The Canadian metalcore band Counterparts came out full of energy and tearing up the stage from the very get go. The charisma of front man Brendan Murphy was a big part of making the set so good, between his funny nature on the mic during songs and his stage presence held the set together well.

The crowd responded to Counterparts with open arms showing energy and the pit never stopped moving with them showing their appreciation for them making the trip over here to the land down under to support the Aussie kings Northlane.

The Disconnect
The vibe was electric inside the aircraft hanger style venue The Triffid as a sea of people that fill the place to the rafters, anxiously waiting for the arrival of the Aussie boys Northlane to arrive. This is the second night in a row in Brisbane and it really puts into perspective how next level this band really is as the first night was completely sold out and the second night was very close to selling out. As the lights go out and the intermission music stops you can feel the anticipation in the air as everyone knows what is coming.
.
.
The opening scene was the stage completely fogged out with a blinding green light that made the band completely invisible when they came out on stage. The intro to their new smash hit Talking Heads starts playing over the speakers before the band burst through the gates with a powerful wall of sound that you can not only hear but feel. The light show was a definite highlight for this intro to their concert with the big light show following along with Nic Pettersen’s drumming. Right from the word go full steam ahead a million miles an hour and completely on point with every note played, skin hit and word sung.
This tour is the first tour the band has done in Australian promoting their new album Alien and the songs played from the new record were met with some of the biggest reactions of the night. Playing new songs including Talking Heads, Details Matter, Jinn, 4D, Freefall, Vultures, Eclipse, Bloodline and Sleepless to kick off the encore. The common thing I found with all the new tracks is that they were actually on par, if not better than the recor – absolutely phenomenal.
.
.
Bloodline was a massive hit live with the first verse being sung so loud by the crowd that it was difficult to hear the vocals at all. The vocal performance from Marcus Bridge throughout the entire set was absolutely flawless and really showed how he transfers his incredible vocal skills from the studio to the stage. This was put on high display in both Freefall and Sleepless, both of which showcasing the ridiculously high range of singer Marcus Bridge and again how his vocal talent transfers from record to live.
The set was ranged from all of their last three records with the addition of the oldest and by far biggest track on the setlist Quantum Flux from their 2013 Singularity album. With an obvious tilt towards the new record the songs were placed perfectly in the set list with detail put into making sure the gig does not lack at any point during the night. I love that even though they have been playing songs like Citizen and Quantum Flux for many years; they still put every bit of heart that they put in back on their releases. Northlane have always been known for being one of the best metalcore bands on the market in the live scene, this gig was no different.
.
.
At the beginning of both Jinn and Eclipse were both met with the same black out and BOOM introduction. This was very cool as it keeps the crowd on their toes about what was going to happen from track to track and also it put a not time to anticipate feel on the two tracks. It was fitting for these tracks in particular because they are both fast paced, EDM driven tracks that benefited from the abrupt intro.
This concert was 100% everything that the band has cracked up to be, full of energy and life. Every song played with such raw emotion, and the whole set was completely flawless. Personal highlights from me were the clean vocal melodies in Freefall and Sleepless, the raw emotion of Vultures that you could physically feel through your chest and the final vocal melody in Quantum Flux in which Marcus Bridge has made his own since being apart of the band.
.
.
The only flaw in the entire set that I would give was that I would have liked to have heard more older tracks throughout the set as these are tracks that always go off in their live shows, however no biggie at all as the show as a whole was phenomenal. 9/10 for the Australian Metalcore Kings.
