Dead Club City – 2023 (July release) Nationally reported as the only show in Australia that didn’t sell out – I’d say the venue was close to its 1200 person capacity.
Supported by Perth sibling duo ‘Those Who Dream’ Josh & Hazel Meyer describe their sound as Alt Rock.
They performed a 30 min set of their unique brand of entertaining music.
Capturing the house and engaging with the local crowd. Having their debut EP ‘Life in Cyan’ reach No4 on Apple Music Rock Chart and latest single released recently ‘True Sight’ the pair are edging towards nationwide success. Both are multi talented musicians, and appear to share a love of the 90’s emo based musical genre that gently features within their own material.
Nothing But Thieves arrived on stage for their incredibly 90 minute set without Big screens, pyrotechnics or Laser lighting. They don’t need any bells or whistles because they are a solid performing band with crowd pleasing material that naturally evolves. ‘Futureproof’ kicking off the set to crowd roars – roars that were relentless through the show. Connor Mason totally at home in the venue and with the Perth audience took regular breaks to talk to the crowd, channelling his inner Yungblud with comments regarding self love and the right for freedom of expression.
Outstanding heavy rock version of ‘Forever and Ever More’ sent the crowd into a frenzy, cemented immediately by a synth energised version of ‘Miracle Baby’.
‘City Haunts’ was a tasty teaser from upcoming album release ‘Dead Club City’ due in July.
Connors vocal range and falsetto is what makes their material so dramatic, cleverly scaffolded by constructive progressive melodies. This was executed perfectly on the live performance of ‘Unperson’ followed by the track that flawlessly builds ‘Phobia’
‘Sorry’ was an invitation for the crowd call back to erupt before the massive climax that is ‘Amsterdam’.
‘Amsterdam’ was a moving experience to witness the crowd roar and atmosphere created the goosebump moment.
With their time on stage nearly over, the encore was latest release ‘Welcome to the DCC’ and their 2021 classic ‘Impossible’
