Walking out of the well known McWhirters Car Park in Fortitude Valley tonight you could clearly tell there was a rock concert tonight somewhere in the valley. The streets lined with people dressed in rock shirts, goth & alternative clothing. This to me is a damn good pretty sight!
As I walk closer to the beautiful Fortitude Music Hall, the line wraps all the way around to McWhirters car park, so we know we are in for a good night tonight as this show has been sold out for quite some time.

Cold Rain was the opening band for the rest of this tour, however they couldn’t make the Brisbane show. Stepping in for them tonight is “Father Deer Hands” from Sydney. I personally didn’t know anything about this band, however I was keen to see how they would go on such a big stage with an already packed Fortitude Music Hall. From the moment this post-hardcore band took the stage, you could tell they were up for this challenge. These local lads from Sydney put on a high performance show who had the whole crowd clapping. For an opening band to get this reaction from a very big crowd, this is a kudos to them! These guys completely deserved the opening slot on this bill. If you haven’t heard these guys before, go look them up as I promise you, you won’t be disappointed!

Next up, a band I was highly anticipating to see, The Used take the stage. Bert McCracken hitting the stage with a non alcoholic beer spit to kick things off. Starting the set off with “Take it Away” before slammin out some absolute killer tracks like “The Bird and the Worm” and “”Listening”. It is quite clear from the very first song, these boys are in fine form tonight. Bert talks to the crowd “we are the worlds best fuckin emo band, so get those old emo vibes out tonight”. Bert is very appreciative to his fans as he welcomes all the first timers seeing The Used into his family. One fan even gave him a present from the front row to which he was excited to open as he pulled out a kookaburra and a plastic worm, nicely played from that fan! Towards the end of the set the band invited a special guest Jacoby Shaddix to the stage to belt out “Blood on my Hands”. Damn this was a great sight to see. The love you could see between Bert and Jacoby made me smile so much. You can tell from this moment these guys are having a damn good time touring together and they obviously have so much respect for eachother. Before closing their set tonight, Bert asked the crowd if he could see their biggest smiles ever along with requesting they leave the venue tonight with those smiles. This was my first time seeing The Used live and damn, I was highly impressed by their performance! Please come back soon!

Next to hit the stage is the one and the only Papa Roach. Fifteen year old me felt damn excited to see this band. As I am sure alot of people in the room were in the same situation as me. Papa Roach is a band you would listen to back in the day when you were hanging out with your friends making memories. Some of these bands from that era hold a very special place in my heart of fond memories in my teenage years and Papa Roach is one of those bands.
Papa Roach hit the stage with “Kill the Noise”. Tonight is the last show of the tour and the boys were on fire like it was the first night of the tour! Jacoby informed the crowd “tonight is a special night, because i woke up to the news this morning that our next song has hit number 1 on the Rock Charts in the US” as they broke into “Cut The Line” and I can see why that song has gone to number 1, its a cracker! Jacoby addressing the crowd for the OG Papa Roach fans who have been with him from the start. “I don’t want this shit to be over man, this is the last night of the tour. You guys make us feel like we are at home.”

Next up the boys pay tribute to the late Keith Flint of The Prodigy with a cover of The Prodigy’s “firestarter”. Of course they had to finish off the night with the most famous old skool Papa Roach song, “Last Resort”. Everyone in the room right now was going crazy. This song is Papa Roach and it hits so hard with the entire crowd tonight.
Walking out of the venue, I couldn’t help but be so damn happy. Both of these bands have helped people through some dark stuff in their lives. Music helps heal the soul for a lot of people and tonight, the whole room was full of smiles walking out, so thank you guys!
Please come back again soon!
